I will feed my cat before I go to bed but without fail every morning he will come into the bedroom, come right up to my head whilst i'm asleep and start purring as loud as possible until I wake up.

Thank you to all who have repsonded to my question. I find that when i do go downstairs to feed Rafa (my cat) he already has plenty of food and water. Maybe he does want to go out but he has a litter tray and is very well trained in that aspect. I will stay in bed til about 7am get up for a shower and he will sit on the washing basket and then watch me shower. Maybe i should get up at 5am and let him out every morning.

I agree with some of the answers... be thankful it's only purring. My kitten would begin with a few swats to the face along with purring and fierce meowing right in my face until I opened my eyes, if I would look at her and close my eyes - SWAT and this went on and on until I woke up. If you give into it, this will become a routine and happen everyday. I love my cat more than anything but if you want this to stop, do not pay attention to the cat when she is doing this in the morning and eventually they will get the hint and leave you alone while you're sleeping. She will eventually get bored and wake you up but at a more decent hour but always remember they do not understand the concept of the weekend or a hangover lol. Good luck

Classic kitty buddy behavior!

Dun worry. Yours isn't wierd but I'm sure you've gathered that from the perivious posts.

My cat actually sticks his head into my mouth too wake me up. Every day. Stomp stomp stomp across my chest. Stuff head in mouth.

He wants too be fed and/or let out.

My wife has it a bit easier. Her cat just waits for my cat too wake me up and then comes running for brakefast.

I suddenly, and with out warning, do not like my wife of her cat.... but that's a different story.

You want too know if there is anything you can do that can alter this behavior?

You can. It's not easy. Changing a cats behavior is always a HUGE pain in the 445. HUGE! I tells ya! Huge!

HUGE!

Starting off from the easy. Don't allow your cat access too your bed room when you are sleeping. Most likely this will result in kitty buddy parking at your bedroom door screaming for admission. This will result in more sleep loss and a grumpy cat. Some cats (on the other hand) will respond too this by just waiting for you too open your door of your own vollision. If you can put up with the noise long enough (two weeks). Kitty buddy will adjust his eating pattern too suit you. He might also just get testy and grump at you when ever you go too touch his furn.

Next up is the old aversion technique. When he wakes you up respond negatively and DON'T feed him. A big old yell. A monstrous shoo. He might get the message after about two weeks but it may result in kitty buddy not being as affectionate.

After all... you are a raging b1tch when you wake up. (That could be his mind set.)

Last option you have is too just accept that kitty buddy is going too wake you up right early. Get up. Feed him. Go back too bed. Eventually what will happen is you wont wake up fully and be able too go right back too sleep.

Hope this helps.

They are your alarm clock! I have two cats that are not allowed in the bedroom during the night, but at 6:30 - 7 am they start meowing at the door, sometimes a strong no give us some more time until they start again. is my BF job to open the door for them, they come in and just lie with me on bed or go to the window. There is one that loves to get on top of me and purr, I only allow him when I'm totaly awake, and he knows it, but some times he likes to test me....

My two oldest cats did this when they were kittens as well as walking across me until I started stroking them. As soon as they were old enough to start going outside they used to refuse to leave me alone until i let them out. Now I have solved the problem by having a cat flap and levaing my bedroom door open so that they can come and go without needing to wake me up.

He does it because he loves you. He's also letting you know that, in his opinion, it's time for you to get up. Also in colder weather cats like the warmth that's generated from your head (and it's often the only part of you not under the duvet).

I've got 4 cats and they all used to jostle for pole position round my head, they would fidget all night so eventually I had to take the attitude "One out, all out" and shut them out of the bedroom. They now wait outside the bedroom door for me to get up in the morning. If I try to have a lie in, there's a cats chorus (3 are Siamese so it gets very loud), however I love them to bits and I wouldn't swap them for the world!

Hey, she is your personal alarm clock. A lot of cats do this. She must be a morning person and wants to tell you how much she loves you. Just pet her and maybe the two of you can fall back asleep with eachother.

don't forget they are really nocturnal so 5am to them is normal try shutting your cat in the kitchen at night with some thing to sleep on other wise enjoy 5am wake up calls for a long time

My (other) cat does the same thing! Clockwork. 5am every morning even though sometimes there is still food out for her that she didn't finish. When they purr like that, it's usually because they want something. That "something" is usually foooooood!!

Both of my girls did this at that age. Seems normal enough! Either this kitty needs to go to the potty and is not yet fully litterbox trained (this is a guess), so it is unsure and needs your help, or yes, it is hungry.

Another option, and one of my girls does this, is that it just wants you to be awake with it (lol) and cuddle it right back!!!

I think this is so endearing! I hope it doesn't bother you, or that if it does you will get used to it!!! Sounds like a sweet, sweet kitty!!
