Is it also red?

I was having a low-throbbing pain behind my left eye and then it got red, so I went to the doctor yesterday and was told I have a nasty infection.

I would suggest going to the doctor and having it looked at if it doesn't go away in a few days or if it has been there for a while already. No sense in putting your health on the line.

There are sinus passages around your eyes and when you get a sinus infection it can feel as though you have a pain behind your eye.
Try some hot packs on your face and forehead and see if that helps.
If the pain persists I would reccommend that you see a Dr.

Pain behind the eye must be taken care of, as it could be an hypertension of the eye, although other conditions , as migraine, allergic reactions, conjunctivitis, could also cause the same problem.
