Just take any multi vitamin that would have omega-3 included. You can buy these at a super market or something. Damn, it's a shame you ain't got wal-mart!

Maxepa (Merck) and Mega 3 (Reddys) are the top brands available in India. They cost Rs.3 for each capsule. Some experiments have shown that they improve mood and lower triglyceride levels and also has anti inflammatory effects. You have to take 4 to 8 gms of Omega 3 (EPA) to get mood stabilizing effects, that means you have to take around 50 capsule per day ! Rs.150 per day. Too much omega 3 irritates your stomach and you may spend all day in toilet. You will smell like fish. Above all, the effects are not clinically proven.

In a letter dated October 31, 2000 entitled Letter Regarding Dietary Supplement Health Claim for omega-3 Fatty Acids and Coronary Heart Disease, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Office of Nutritional Products, Labeling, and Dietary Supplements noted that the known or suspected risks of omega-3 fatty acids may include:

Increased bleeding can occur if overused (normally over 3 grams per day)
The possibility of hemorrhagic stroke,
Oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids forming biologically active oxidation products,
Increased levels of low density lipoproteins (LDL) cholesterol or apoproteins associated with LDL cholesterol among diabetics and hyperlipidemics,
Reduced glycemic control among diabetics.
Suppression of immune and inflammation responses, and consequently, to decreased resistance to infections and increased susceptibility to opportunistic bacteria
The following risks have been attributed to the FDA but are not mentioned in the above letter:

A significant potential risk is the possibility of vitamin poisoning from taking large doses of supplements which contain large quantities of vitamins (particularly vitamin A) in addition to omega-3 fatty acids. For this reason, the primary source of omega-3, if taken as a supplement, should be from fish body oil and not from a fish liver based oil.

I recommend you to take WINOFIT capsules 1 or 2 times a day.

Your question is a good example shows how far a media can affect people.

Omega 3 is very safe, & yes...it improves mental performance & memory. It is also good for joint pain, as it is a natural anti-inflammatory, and it's also very good for the heart & skin.
Omega 3 is also known as "Essential Fatty Acids". You can find it online by doing a search, or by going to your local health food store. If you find one with vitamin E in it; all the better. It's inclusion in the formula helps prevent rancidity.
I keep mine refrigerated, just in case.
