I have had ECT. You really need to reasearch this. By reading your question and the previous answers, the general public is mis-informed on ECT.

It is generally given to elderly females as they are the most vulyerable. People tend to pass the cognitve problems of ECT off to old age.

Any effects on depression are short lived. It does not last for long.

It causes premenant brain damage. They shoot electrity through your brain from 2 to 6 seconds that causes a gad mal siezure for approx 25 seconds.

It does erase memories. The doctors have no control on what memories are being erased.

For me and thousands others it erased my life. I do not recognize my family and friends, I need a map to go any place in a city I have lived for over 20 years, I have forgotten how to cook. I am on disability because I no longer no how to do my job. I have 4 college degrees I have forgotten I earned. My ability to learn has been compromised. My personality has changed. My IQ is lower. I can go on and on. This alone has taken me almost an hour to write.

You really do need to research this before you let anyone touch you.

Electroshock therapy isn't really safe in my own opinion. I would rather go to the doctor and have therapy sessions. If it is a chemical imbalance in your brain, you might need some medication to stimulate the right amount of serotonin your body needs to balance your emotions. I'm sorry you're suffering from this terrible depression. Only you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and say to yourself, "I'm a good person and I should be treated with respect." and respect yourself. I have some painful memories of my own but I deal with them as in, this is the past. These memories are over and gone. I have a future to loo forward too. It's not going to be easy, but it'll get better when you seek out help.

Good luck.

If your depression and anxiety are caused from eating greasy and high fat foods (like fast food), then it is probably helping a lot. Since it's been 3 days it could be just psychological too. Give it a couple months to know for sure. But don't forget to mix in some protein and take into account you are getting the proper vitamins/minerals by mixing it up a bit. Don't get stuck on just one or two food items. I would recommend spending an hour or two and read up on at least basic nutrion facts and guidelines.

It can help with your depression. It will not help you forget your painful memories. The help with depression has advantages over medication or counseling. It is immediate, whereas most anti-depressants take a minimum of two weeks to start working. There are no side effects; many of the antidepressasnts have side effects.

If you go ahead with with the electroshock therapy, the doctor still may put you on anti-depressants for a time. It is different for everyone.

Good luck to you. I did not have it myself as I do not have insurance, but it is the only thing that helped my aunt. She is elderly and she had great results from it.

No. get over them and move on
I dont think electroshock therapy is even done anymore You need a good psychiatrist
Do you know t he difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist ----well one deals with behaviour and has no medical experience and the other ihas to be doctor before he becomes a psychiatrist. You need a real psychiatrist and I dont think he would offer electroshock therapy. Nothing can make you forget
All the survivors of Dr. Mengele will tell you that the memories never fade but they have moved on.because to linger is to die

Why use lobotomies or shock therapy when the pills today can do the same thing. Removing brain cells is the easiest way to obtain a peaceful brain.
