Fear of hell is definitely a motivating factor. Eventually logic prevails for some.

At one time it did mold my path. Not any more. The condition some call hell is a viewpoint. Once the lesson of that viewpoint is learned, there is no need for hell. It'd be nice if more people would get this, but that's why we're here, to find our way out of our own hells.

I doubt many will be honest about that. I can say though that the Christian doctrine of hell is what helped start me on my path to atheism. I couldn't worship a god who would eternally damn his own creation for an honest held belief. Especially an all-knowing god who would have known, before the fact, that the person he created would be eternally tortured.

It is not the fear of hell, it is the fear to be disappointing Allah. This is even what I teach our nephews. I do not say 'Do not lie or you will go to hell'. I say 'Do not lie or Allah will be upset with you. Do you really want to upset Him when He did all those good things to you?' Or I say 'Go to pray so that Allah will love you more'. Allah is the driving force.

Decisions? Yes. Trying to bridge the gap between myself and my mother for the sake of Allah, Wearing the hijab (covering all the bosy except face and hands), quitting make up, breakiong up with my finance, etc.
