For about a week I have had a red blotchy rash that only appears when I shower, but my arms and legs, where it always appears, are always itchy and sore. There is no visibal evidence of the rash unless I have just been in the shower. What an earth is this, and what can I do to make it better?

If you haven't started using new products in the bath, it may be that the manufacturers have slightly changed the "recipe" for the shampoo or shower gel. Or it may be that, over time, you have slowly developed an allergy to some of the ingredients and it's only now beginning to show.

It is possible that you're allergic to something in the water, but it's less likely.

Try changing first your shower gel for a few days and then your shampoo and then anything else you use, one at a time and see if the rash goes away. You' may be best off trying a product made by the Body Shop as they're well tested on humans so as to be less reactive than some products.

If you find the rash goes, great! Whatever you just took out was the cause. If you try changing everything one by one, and it doesn't go, it's time to go to your doctor to see if they can help.

Don't rule out that you may be having a minor allergic reaction or that one of your shower products are causing your symptoms. Some allergies develop over time or get worse as you get older. I never knew this as I've always been allergy free but the past few years I've seemed to pick up some allergies to things that never bothered me before. It may be something else too. I would watch it for another week and if it doesn't go away or it gets any worse I would make an appointment with your doctor or a dermatologist. Sometimes rashes can't be explained and go away on their own just as fast as they appeared.

It could JUST be that you've suddenly developed an allergy to the soap or shower gel you've been using for some time, so I think it would be worth changing it for a couple of weeks just to see what happens. If nothing else - and that fails - at least it's something you can tell them to rule out if/when you go for allergy tests. Good Luck. Eb#

I'm allergic to chlorine in the water. What you have on your arms & legs are hives. Maybe the water company is adding a new chemical to your water supply that is effecting you like this. You should see your doctor as there may be other things causing this kind of a reaction.

You can try Benadryl for the itching. It will make you sleepy, so don't take it if you have to drive or operate any machinery.

Apart from the obvious of Soap, Shampoo etc have you tried cleaning your shower head because sometimes there can be bacteria on the nozzle that builds up so take it off and clean it in a mild detergent (I clean mine in Bleach) also try cleaning your shower area with an anti fungal cleaning spray (this does not mean your dirty it's a normal build up)
failing all that it's the doctors
Good Luck

Try putting some moisturiser on straight after showering, I sometimes get dry and itchy after showering and it works for me, i have to do the same after a bath, (its as though the water dries out my skin too much.) I get aqueous cream from the chemist, its only cheap and lasts for ages, not only can you put it on after, but you can actually use it as a cleanser in the bath or shower and it stops your skin from drying out. Good luck.

I get this a lot. All the time actually! I always put it down to having eczema and put cream on to soothe it afterwards. Strangely enuf it could be your shampoo, i know that's what sets mine off is the shampoo and conditioner because it drips down your body when you wash your hair. try changing your products for something for sensitive skin altho if you're anything like me you'll put up with sore arms if it means you have great hair!

you could always go to your docs who might prescribe a mild cream for afterwards but odds are he will just tell you to try changing your products.

If this has just recently apeared it has to be something you have recently introduced to your shower. You may be having a reaction to chlorine that is in the water. See your dermatoligist they will do a series of alergy tests an be able to Identify your problem.

A friend of mine has reactions to something in the water. She had reactions to drinking water in Thailand. Maybe there is something in the water that your body reacts to. Go check with doctor. Some people on Yahoo! Answers cannot tell what you have.

Could it be possible that you shave your legs or anywhere else before the shower, as that causes rash often?
