They know, deep down, that the bible makes no sense taken in or out of 'context' anyway...

The Bible has history of being quoted out of context by those for and against it. Although many verses in the Bible can stand alone those often quoted to support an argument are as a result of
people quoting one passage to support an argument based on one verse isolated from the chapter it occurs in without bearing in mind:
1. The rest of the chapter
2. The historical background and social context of when the scripture was written
3. The distortion that occurs when translating from the original languages like Greek and Aramaic to English and other contemporary languages thus changing the orginal and intended meaning of the scripture
These factors are important in not just understanding scripture but other knowledge and information. Tha malaise of the new century is that many people do not approach an argument or a problem with the aim of finding the correct solution or resolution by looking at all the information needed to make a decision based on unbiased critical reasoning. Instead many on both sides of the argument (for and against) only aim to prove their point of view and manipulate the truth and facts to suit their purpose.

Many Christians try to get the Bible to make statements that rightfully belong only to the teaching office of the universal church, that Jesus himself founded.
Jesus personally founded the Church ... he didn't "found" the Bible.
Jesus gave authority to his Church ... he didn't give authority to the Bible.
It is the Church ... not the Bible ... which has been charged by God with ruling and teaching the new covenant faithful.
It is the Catholc Church which provides the true context for every passage of scripture, and which teaches authoratively in God's name.
Without the God-given authority of the Catholic Church, all you have is the rather uninspired opinions of men.
The real answer to your faith questions is: "It is so because God's very own Church say it is so!"

You say why?, because mankind has a tendency to read chapters and verses that suit their needs and ignore the rest because the rest of that verse prove that the power belongs to God and not mankind. And many church's and pastor do that when it especially comes to the tithing that puts more money in their pockets. Also many ministers do not have the true translation of all to many Hebrew words or the Greek words. And without those correct translation they can not teach you correctly. So they make up something or just out right lie to their flock.. Now that does not make the word of God wrong it just make those that teach their version of God's words are incorrect. It will take more time to show you other things, I just hope that this helps you understand just a little better.......

This is their only form of self defense against what is clearly logical argument against blind faith and a refusal to accept facts. If one were to take the works of Charles Dickens and annotate them in the same way the Bible is broken into chapter and verse you would be able to "prove or disprove" any argument in exactly the same way Christians do with their book. If you write enough words and break them up into small bits you can build what ever you want like using kids Lego bricks.

From what you wrote I could extract this quote of you stating "...the Bible is being 'taken out of context' by atheists." They are the words you used, but they now have a completely different meaning and spin on what you actually intended. Just an example of how things can be taken out of context. Need I go further with this example? Nah I think you can figure the rest out for yourself.

Sorry to say there are alot of people that claim to be Christians that really don't understand what He is all about. And in the process they give God a bad image. The best thing a person can do is read the Bible by themselves and meditate on His Word day and night and let the Holy Spirit reveal to them the true meaning.Take Care.

Good point! The passage used by most fundies to support their anti-gay rhetoric is used COMPLETELY out of context! On another point, they've used song lyrics out of context to prove they're "evil" when the true context of said lyrics was actually biblical in nature. Makes a person think, eh? I might also add that I am a Christian, but not all of us are bad, ok?

They also never do tell us what they they think is the meaning in the "proper" context. They should read it for themselves and supply us with the "proper" context, but instead they just scream "out of context" and dismiss our arguments...it is quite frustrating.

How can someone who don't know the truth, and is forced to believe in illusions, can possibly know meaning of the word " context " ?
The only important parts of Bible for people living today, are Prophecies, let our beloved Christians believe in Xmas's, till they die.
And than, their Savior will take over.
much love
