first you should not let him get you in the choke. if he does than use your head. Head butt him as hard as you can and/or stomp on his toes. it will loosen him up a little from the grip. yo can head butt him again if you want. get him in a finger lock then you finish him off. sample.

I've learned from my teacher.

RE:
Is there a defense against rear naked chokehold?

If his forearm isn't under your neck yet, grab it with both your hands and tuck your chin. Try to move the opponent's arm behind your head so that it goes across the back of your neck. As long as the opponent's arm is stuck there he will not be able to choke you. Now you should be able to work your way out of the back to a better position.

If the forearm is in place under your neck, you're in a lot of a trouble and you are probably going to tap out unless you are substantially stronger than your opponent. When you feel his hand go behind your head, peel it off and then try to work his forearm out from under your neck.

The answers relating to genitalia attacks/ear pulling/eye gouging will only work if the opponent has a weak choke and doesn't have his hooks in. Once this choke is sunk you will be unconscious very soon. If you change your focus away from defending your neck, this will accelerate your demise.

It is similar. The power of the rear naked choke is that it blocks oxygen from the brain by both restricting blood AND oxygen. In this way, it is really a "sleeper hold". It truly puts you to sleep, and not in a good way. One point that you might note for your next game of trivial pursuit: Some use a similar form of choke on themselves via a system of ropes that constricts the blood flow to the brain, providing some sort of effect called "auto erotic asphyxia" where a person loses consciousness, falls over (at which point the rope apparatus releases, hopefully) causing a powerful sexual climax. This was the cause of death in the case of the lead singer of INXS, but the apparatus apparently failed, so he died. Pretty stupid I think, but worthy of note.

as soon as you feel the arm coming around your neck turn your head into it and tuck your chin down so as the arm cannot lock in underneath the chin which will give you some time but only a few seconds more to grab the arm to work into an arm bar usually over your shoulder.

also, by turning your body along with your head into the oncoming arm, especially if they try to bring you down to the ground, you lessen the chance that your opponent can put their chest to your back for better leverage as well as limiting their ability to "hook" you by locking their heels around your waist, you may also have a better chance at grabbing the arm or the wrist for an armlock of your own to counter their move, but you must do it quickly or you could lose it.

Don't give your opponent your back. If he has your back, don't let him get his arms in tight around your neck. Once someone's already choking you, you're pretty much screwed as you have maybe 3 or 4 seconds before its lights out. But I'd suggest trying to pry and bend their fingers and break their grip.

1. Reach up and slide the hand that is pressing your head forward over the top of you head and in front of your face. Then hold onto it.
2. Use our other hand to peel the other arm away from you neck.
3. Tuck your chin and place a forearm by your jaw.
4. Keep his hands away from you neck and try to turn and face him.

Well, you'd have to be a bit vicious. You can bend people's fingers back, or throw your head back to catch them in the face. Nasty. (by the way, I',m coming from a Judo point of view, sorry if we're talking about different strangleholds).

If you can't tuck your chin in or even if you can....How about a simple horse pinch to the back of the arm or if you're down...the inner thigh. It works I had it done to me in a S/D class and then tried it on my hubby...leaves quite the bruise!

talk on the phone defense, or keep one hand controled, it is very hard to choke someone with one arm. Also sometimes you can arm bar them from behind or if they cross there feet you can break there ankles.
