If so, do you think Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and atheists should be offended that the Gideons leave a Bible in nearly every room in the U.S.?

Have you forgotten that this country was founded on Christian principles and beliefs! Others, in fact, all are welcome here--its the Christian way. But if Christianity offends you, you shouldn't come to a Christian country. After all, I expect to see Islam in an Islamic country, Buddhism is a Buddhist country, etc. So, expect to see Christianity in a Christian country.

Wrong. The country was settled by the pilgrims, who came here to freely worship without persecution. The founders and framers made no mention of God or the bible in the constitution, the founding document of the nation. Stop believing what everyone tells you and do some basic research before you say something so blatantly incorrect. Look up the religious histories of Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, Lincoln, Taft, etc, then tell me where anyone said this country was founded on the concepts in christianity.

To answer the question - I would welcome it. Why shouldn't there be? You don't have to read it. Just goes to show you how the christians continue to push their religion into our faces. Last time I was at a hotel, I asked the maid to remove the bible.

no, and no. the US and Canada are basically Christian countries, and the gideons feel that people will pick it up and read if they are depressed, no matter what their religion. If you want to suppy afew million qurans, in English, I'm sure the hotels that have the bible in the drawers would put then there as well. ( has to be english, since most of us can't read arabic, even many Muslims.)

i have always wondered why the quran isn't available in hotel rooms. i am a catholic but i certainly would like to know about islam too.. it's really about educating oneself to better understand why we act the way we do regarding religious beliefs.

but i guess becuase the christians outnumber the muslims that's why there is the choice to place the bible in hotel rooms rather than the quran. if it were otherwise, the quran would be sitting there too.

I do not care what they leave in hotel dresser drawers. I take at least one Bible with me everywhere I go, usually 2 or 3, so I can give them to people.

Not offensive. Just pointless.

If you have a problem with the Gideons, get in touch with them.

No, I wouldn't. I have started reading it in fact, but it's rather boring. I think it's important for people to understand each others' religious beliefs if there is to be any attempt at peace.

I would be disappointed, but not offended. My response would be simply to not pick it up and read it. You have the same option with the Bible.

not offended at all.
Many hotels in western U.S. also have book of mormon.

I don't think anyone should be offened by the book - it is your choice to pick it up.

I do get offened by people who rip the maps out of the phone books in hotels

"Gideons"?! .....never heard that before.

Anyway, America was founded on Christianity. SO, no, I am not offended.

Quit trying to dig up things to get "offended" over and get a life.

I just wouldn't read it. Just the same way I would change the channel if something were on TV that I did not want to watch.
