birds do not have enough oil on the feather to help them keep dry and float.
ducks do not fly as high because of the oil and they way they are shaped and their size. they float well because of the oil on the feathers

Some birds do swim and ducks do fly high. Never seen a flock of Canada Geese before huh?

many birds do swim and most all ducks and geese not only fly but migrate long, long distances
