Like, I know what you mean, like I hate it too, but like, I don't normally apologize for it, you know what i mean? Like what I really hate is when people are walking, but don't lift their feet, they shuffle, making noise, what is it too hard to lift the shoes off the ground? Like it drives me CRAZY! I also hate it when people say, you know what I mean, you know what I mean?!
I hope you have a sense of humor, bc that's teasing i'm doing here, I'm not serious about the use of Like, I hardly ever use it, but thought I'd try to be funny. Enjoy, I do agree with you! :-) I'm not mocking your question, OK? Seriously, I'm not. Take my answer w;/a grain of salt. But I do HATE it when people shuffle their feet instead of picking them up, how lazy are they? ;-)

They did studies, they determined LIKE was the most used word by Teenagers (or was it a certain age in their Teens).

Another study by another place was done about 10 years later,...
LIKE was yet again the most used word by the same target.

They like to show off clips of people on the streets they talk to about the results that are about the same age. They would say " What do you believe the word most used is..?" the people would say LIKE many times per sentence. They would tell other people " What is your reaction when we say LIKE is the most used word by..." that would start a stutter of LIKE from the person being interviewed, then the people around them would stutter LIKE as well.

I would like to suggest that LIKE may also have some contagious effects,.. but I do not even remember who did these Studies,.. the last was in the early 90's I believe.

I think it's kinda like "um". It is a filler sound while your brain organizes your thoughts. It can be really bad if it is excessive, but most of the time I don't notice it. If someone does it all the time, I tell them to stop and think about what they are going to say before they say it and it helps stop most of it. Like in job interviews - doing mock interviews before hand gives you a chance to know what you are going to say and prevent those pauses.

Yes, any word used repeatedly and without meaning is annoying. It's a verbal filler like umm or yeah. Put a rubber band on your wrist and snap yourself every time you say like. Your brain will begin to change it's patterns after just a few "reminders"
