Yes, as long as you go to a reputable tattoo parlor and they sterilize all of the equipment.

Yes tattoos are safe. The key is to go to a shop with a good reputation. Ask the artist how they sterilize their equipment. They should be using an autoclave. Make sure they are using a fresh cup of ink when they start your tat (ink that has been used on someone else could contain hepatitis C, even if the other equipment is clean) Use common sense, if you wouldn't want to eat a meal there, you probably don't want someone piercing your skin there.

As for all these haters that are bad talking tattoos...most of them have no clue about what they are talking about. They are just voicing their opinion. As long as you get a tattoo that means something to YOU you'll be fine. Make sure that it is something you'll want to still see 20 years from now. A tattoo worth having is one that stands for something you believe in or reminds you of a special time in your life. They are not a painful as people say they are. The more flesh you have in a spot (thigh, arm, etc.) the less it will hurt, the more bone in the area (wrist, foot, ankle, etc.) the more the needle will vibrate against the bone and the more it will hurt. Neither pain is unbearable, one is just more uncomfortable than the other. Make sure you know what you would like before you decide to get one (don't let anyone "talk you into" your tattoo). Think about it and if you decide to get one have fun.

when you walk into a tatto shop, look for these things
1. the artist is wearing gloves
2. they have a certificate posted saying that they have been inspected by the health board
3. they have an autoclave- it's like a tiny "vault" usually white or silver....it's used to sanitize the needles
4. the place looks clean-check the bathroom too, that's a spot they usually forget to clean

if the tattoo shop has all of the above, it should be fine. the most important thing is that they have the autoclave and they use NEW needles in the tattoo gun. when in doubt, ask around for a good shop. don't go anywhere that seems too cheap, there is a reason for that.

good luck

I do not personally have any tattoos. But a licensed facility that uses clean, sterile instruments in a clean, sterile environment is just going to hurt not cause any infections or permanent damage to you beyond the ink left behind. No different than getting your ears pierced.

It has been going on for 1000s of years. . .we may have learned a thing or 2 in that time.

In most cases yes, but before getting a tattoo make sure you reasearch a shop. Make sure that they have a biohazard room where they sterilize their tubes/needles equiped with an autoclave. Make sure that the shop and all its artists are properly trained and certified. If you arn't sure about the first shop you look at you can always check out another.

In most cases yes, but totally disgusting. Why mess up a beautiful body and skin with a tattoo. Think of what it will look like in 20 or 30 years when your older sagged and bagged.

Find yourself a reputable tattooist that has ultraclave to sterilise their needles. I have a tattoo and it is great! It is a phoenix. Check out their art too so you see how good they are.
