I have a dell machine that got a problem on the mother board (Keyboard controller error). with time my machine couldnt communicate with the keyboard and hunged somewhere when booting.

I got a new Mother board, but i dont want to format my hard disk because i love the programmes that are there en i cant get them.
So with this new mother board in place the machine stops somewhere when booting. Can you assist me on how to use FIXBOOT OR FIXMBR and how to reach there or how to repair without reinstalling.

thanks all

ur in a pickle ...the only thing i can think of is to try to boot from an operating system install disk and see if it will repair it ... if you use your old drive as a slave it ur programs will probably not work because it will have a different drive letter and the registry entries from the programs will be missing unless you can locate them all and edit them and export them to the new operating system ... you should alwways back up program installs and other important things ... with a new motherboard if its different than the old one you have compounded the problem...

You MUST reinstall the operating system! All of the data from the old motheboard is in the Windows Registry! You cannot clean it out!

All of your software and hardware drivers MUST be reinstalled!
Solution: Purchase the cheapest/smallest size SATA Hard drive. Pull the power from the current drive in you computer.

Install the new drive, disconnect your computer from the Internet.
Reinstall Windows and all software/drivers. Install your motherboard drivers/utilities right after Windows.

After your computer is up and running, reconnect the original drive. then you will have your data!
