its due to the following
1. high body temp means faster metabolic reaction in the body hence more Oxygen needed for this
2. heart and muscles used in breathing are still working harder than they were at rest
3. tissue repair processes are occurring at an increased pace

This is described as the recovery oxygen uptake

When we start to run, we breathe faster because our blood system needs to move faster to bring energy to the parts of our body using the energy to run.

After we've stopped running, your body is tired. So basically, the more oxygen, the more energy you can unlock from your fat, blood sugar, etc. If you want details, look up respiration.

do you know why we breathe at all?
its to obtain oxygen which is used to burn food(carbohydrates) to gain energy.
now when we run we lose our energy raoidly so to stabilise the system and make up for lost energy and also to gain energy for running we breathe quickly and after running still we have to regain some energy that is why we breathe so rapidly. after running the instant you stop , you feel very tired and exhausted but later after a few minutes suddenly you feel very energetic, its for the same reason

You have a type of respiratory infrction that has diminished your oxygen intake. This is still allergy season and the fall has its peaks around now. Try walking daily 3 miles and this will help your lung capacity. If you can't walk without coughing or if you get a fever it could be bronchitis...See your Dr.
