According to an article on Yahoo a few weeks ago (based on FBI statistics), New York is the safest LARGE city (in terms of violent crime per person), and L.A. is the third safest. San Diego was actually up there with one of the cities with the most crime per person, surprisingly. I now live in Long Beach, used to live in SD, and grew up in Sacramento, so I was curious about Sacramento and Long Beach's stats. On the FBI website I found that Long Beach is slightly larger than Sacramento, but Sacramento has more violent crimes, murders and homicides, and forcible rapes per person. I think I'll stay down here. The weather is better anyway.

According to Forbes magazine the top 5 cities in the US are
1. Honolulu Hawaii
2. Boise Idaho
3.SantaFe New Mexico
4. yakima WA

according to the website listed below the safest cities in CA listed are all in the L.A. area (very surprising for me to findout!)

I don't think there is an absolute safest town in American, simply because anyone can carry guns in this country! I worry how law-enforcement people can work everyday with so much fear.

Roselawn Memorial Park, well its not really a town.... but the inhabitants are very quiet and never bother you much.... unless George Romero shows up with a camera.....

Folsom, Rocklin and Granite Bay in Northern CA are pretty safe, upscale neighborhoods. They are more expensive, but they are very very nice and they have a very good community.
