All of the words the first two reponders came up with have vowels. The 'y' clearly acts as a vowel in those cases.

I sure can't think of any. There are plenty of words without a,e,i,o, or u, but that doesn't mean they don't have a vowel. A vowel is defined by the type of sound you make during pronunciation, nothing more. When you pronounce rythym, the y's are pronounced identically to i's. In the y in year has a totally different sound, and is clearly a consonant.

Didn't you people ever hear the old saying: "a,e,i,o,u and sometimes y"?

pablodiablo19 is right. The letter 'y' can act as a vowel, and so can 'w'. The answer is there is no word in the English language without a vowel.

TWYNDYLLYNGS

Twyndyllyngs is the longest word in English that doesn't contain one of the five vowels (AEIOU). It comes from Welsh and is obviously rare, but it does appear in the Oxford English Dictionary.

There is one I like to use every day... "mmmm!"
It is both a spoken and written form of English (as well as other languages) communication indicating one of several emotional mental or physical states. Therefore, it is a word.

As for whether it is a verb or a noun or whatever, I find it best used as a proposition - errr... preposition.
