Actually, the bible that most people know today is no more the word of God than the 6 o'clock news. The original was wrtten well after the events occured, and for the most part, by people other than those the writting is attributed to. It has been rewritten so many times over the years by Christian Hierarchical groups for their own empowerment that it is no more than a basic guide now, if even that. I prefer to look at it as a book of mythology to look at and learn from, but not to mold your life by. Think about it, the Veil of Veronica was supposedly created when Jesus walked to his crucifixion. The name Veronica (Literally Vera Icon from the Latin) did not exist at that point in time. It translates (albeit a little loosly) to Holy picture. Hrmm.... also, Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute like she is depicted. It is believed that she may have actually been one of the apostles, but was stricken from the record to disempower women, she and the Virgin Mary were brought more to the forefront when the Christian church was wrokign to convert the Goddess worshipping druids of great Britian and northern Europe. There is so much more that can be said, but that is the tip of the iceberg. If you really want to have your eyes opened, try taking a few comparative theology courses in colleges that are not affiliated with any christian group. You might be surprised at waht you will learn.

I do not think you will find an answer to this question on yahoo answers. But if you want to know what the Bible is all about ask a Jehovahs Witness-They have studied the Bible inside out-they even have disc. with proff of the scriptures. I have one on my lap top and use it all the time when I want answers backed up with fact-(not someones I think soos.) As far as the preistoric beast? Jesus told his followers that-the eye has not seen, nor the ear has not heard of all the things that has happen or will happen in our universe. In fact his followers were told that no scroll could contain all that has been done, or all that has happened on this earth. He also spoke of a time when all that has died will be brought back from the grave (John 5:28-30), and will live right here on this earth.( Rev 21: 3&4. Ps 37:10 & 11,29. At that time we will be able to get all our questions answered.

I wholeheartedly believe that the bible contains the word of God written by man inspired by the holy spirit of God. If you are an intelligent person, you will read the one book that has drawn more attention than any other, if you are searching for the truth. Consider this: The bible is unique in its continuity, here is a book written over a 1,500 year span, written over 40 generations, written by more than 40 authors from every walk of life, including kings, peasants, philosophers, fisherman, poets, statesman, scholars, etc, written in different places, written at different times, written on 3 continents, written in 3 languages and its subject matter includes hundreds of controversial topics. Yet, the biblical authors spoke with harmony and continuity from genesis to revelation with one unfolding story: God's redemption of man. If its not God's work then nobody can. Suppose you pick just 10 present day well known authors, all from one walk of life, one generation, one place, one time, one continent, one language and just one controversial subject, would those ten authors agree? Di finitely not and you would have conglomeration. The bible has been read by more people (you not included) and published in more languages than any other book in the history of mankind. There are so many evidences that this book cannot survived this long if its authorship is not from God. As for the prehistoric beast you may want to read Genesis chapter 1 verse 24.

Believing the Bible does not mean believing the unfounded human ideas which have been imposed on it by those mishandling it. Bishop Ussher's 4004 BC creation was just that, a human idea. Genesis was written to tell about God and man. It was NOT written as a science or history text. Ussher arrived at his number by adding up dates and ages with no conclusive evidence that the numbers he was adding truly coincide... The only way that adding ages has meaning is if there is a fixed point of comparison given. Most of the time this is not the case.
The critters were not mentioned because it was not written about critters ;-)

No. The bible is full of absurb stories such as Jacob placing rods around the sheeps' and goats' drinking troughs so they would look at the rods as they bred and because they looked at these rods while they were breeding, they produced many more lambs and kids that were striped, speckled and spotted like the rods.
It doesn't mention dinosaurs because dinosaurs were not even a concept back then. Job is full of exaggerations. Warhorses may become excited, but they have strong objections to being poked with swords. Ostriches are devoted parents. And there is no animal that sets anything on fire with its breath.

There is archeological evidence showing that the bible was written by men, and the various books voted on to ensure that they steered the church in the direction they wanted it to go (namely being the most powerful entity). There are many books that have been verified to be from the right time frame, but were deemed too radical to be included, some were contradictory and some were even too evangelical. Many books have been discredited archeologically as well.
Churches originally came into existence to create order and maintain laws, by maintaining those who were higher up recieved them from a higher power. The holy writings that each church uses, are in many ways, bastardizations of other writings. There is no "word of god" per se, only the words of men attempting to maintain power over their flock.

I think the Bible is a composite of the works of many men over many centuries. It has some good things in it but it is only part of the story. Other great writings exist which can help us be good people.
When much of the Bible was written dinosaurs were long ago extinct. They did not have scientific reasoning to explain the giant animal skeletons, if they found them.

The Bible is just an attempt by bronze aged cavemen to explain the world around them. They knew very little of science back then and it was the best they could do to make up stories explaining our existence to appease our natural tendency to wonder. Christianity survives because it appeals to people's emotions and fears of the unknown. Christianity offered the stories that appealed best to these things and that is how it won out over other competing religions at the time. Also, they had more rulers of governments who embraced it as the state religion and they killed more people.
