How can you guys believe in such a horrible book!!! How can you read it to your children? Is it because you ignore the horrors and only read the same verses that make you feel good? I don't get it. Don't you know how much pain and suffering religious belief has caused in our world? I want to make you see the truth so badly but you won't. It took me 16 years to figure out religion was harmful, when will you realize it?

My family supports a religious organization that doesn't tell on pedephiles if they are found out by them. How could they let these poor children suffer!!!! How could they not tell the police about it? It makes me so mad!!!

Everyone should check out The Brick Testament, where the craziest stories from the Bible along with the more important ones are shown entirely in LEGO and are 100% real Bible stories and teachings.

First, I want to say that I am truly sorry for the hurt that you'e felt at the hands of Christianity because I can definitely identify. The only difference is, I am a Christian.

You are correct. The Bible is not at all the fairy tale book that it is made out to be. To answer your question, yes I read it to my kids and no, I do not skip the unhappy parts. (though I do leave out verses of an extremely graphic nature, due to the fact that they are 4 and 5 years old, while still getting the intended point accross.) The main point of the entire book is that actions have conseqences. I think everyone on our society can relate to feeling, at times that there is no real justice or accountability. God is trying to let us know that He actually DOES keep track of injustices.

Now, on the subject of suffering caused by religion. There is not a soul on this forum that could ever argue otherwise. My point is that those acts that were carried out in the name of God, in all actuality, had NOTHING to do with Him. These evil souls used the name of God for to feed their own lust of power. Just as many of the Muslim extremists are doing to the religion of Islam. Selfish fools with not even enough conviction to abstain from maipulating Holy scripture disgrace their religion and their God.

Even aside from the extreme effects of religion though, it could be said that religion has never done anyone even the tiniest bit of good. But the God of the Bible is not about religion. He came to do away with everything that religion is and all of the harm caused by it...if only the many ignorant Christians would pick up their Bibles every once in a while instead of depending on the word of another. When the followers of Christ actually adhere to the teachings of Christ, then we would see a definite difference in the world.

Blessed Be

I think the bible does not cause pain and suffering. The bible does have some crap in it such as Joshua's conquest of Jericho and other crap that make the bible show violence. But, without the belief of a God looking after us how the heck do we go through troubled times? Will you ask Science for guidance?..."Molecules are the smallest part of a chemical compoud" Wow that really helps... My point here is that the Bible has so many accounts of pain and suffering because it is the reality of human beings. The Bible's purpose is to help people cope with these experiences that people before already experienced. The Bible is made by people who experienced pain and was able to cope with them through God so that we the future people can cope with the same sufferings easier. In a way the bible is a guidebook through life made by people who suffered from pain.

By your words, I should ignore that in my very own city, people are being raped and murdered and letting their babies wander down the streets alone while they sleep off their meth. I guess I should only look at the things that comfort me like birds and flowers and such. Men lived then and men live now, and they killed and sinned then and they kill and sin now. The Bible is an account of history and to deny horrible things happened would be a lie. The whole point of it was that sin entered the world with man, not with God, and despite it all, He sent His only son to die for us, which was a horrible death, but an act of love.
The whole Book is a lesson to learn from, not to ignore because it makes us feel uncomfortable.
Don't blame God for all the nastiness, blame mankind, and be part of the change and not more of the problem.
I pray you find the truth of Gods' love.

Pain and suffering are not caused by religious beliefs they are caused by sinful people and everyone sins, and if you don't belive in sin then everyone has their morals and we've all made "mistakes". But, yes I do belive in God and at times he has made me angry too. However, the more educated I get about what the Bible teaches the more my strength in Christ grows.
I'm not going to justify how you feel because every Christian has been angry and may take their anger out on Christ at times, but to say that we harm our children is ridiculous. EVERY RELIGION has done harm to their children, Christians are not perfect nor to most claim to be. We are very much human and we have made mistakes. That's why there is forgivness.

God Bless You!

Boopie, you shouldn't be angry at Christians, at least not at most of them. For the most part, Christians are good and well meaning and doing what they think is best for you and for the world, right or wrong. And many Christians are doing a lot of good for society, running orphanages and food kitchens, as Jesus said, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving to the poor... and more importantly, doing so freely and for unselfish reasons.

The ones you should be upset with are the fundamentalist mega-evangelists, Jerry Fallwel, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and the like, who are doing all in their power to force everyone to submit to their beliefs, and therefore their authority, including the assault and usurpation of the very government of the United States. And the psuedo-religious political figures in our government, including the President, who use religion insincerely for the acquisition of personal power and wealth.

I personally am an agnostic, not a Christian, and I can understand your anger. But I hope you can direct it at those who deserve it, not Christians in general.

I understand what you mean. Religion sometimes causes a lot of trouble.

But if you believe that why don't you believe that you should be accepting of ALL religions and cultures?
(I am in no way a deeply religious person.)
Sure some Christians aren't great but it's the same with every other religion in the world. There's always going to be some people who do wrong in "the name of their faith" but seriously, most people need something to believe in.

It's because of people not accepting other religions that the whole problem arises.

I don't mean to be rude, but if it took you 16 years to realise that. How much longer will it take for you to realie that what YOU are saying is as bad as what you're saying is wrong. It's important that we all learn to be accepting of ALL culture and religions, without judging whole communities in general.

Hope that made sense. =P

You come from a world of religious beliefs. You will die in a world that still has religious beliefs. So you will never know in your lifetime what the alternative to religious beliefs looks like. I think it may be a bit presumptious to believe it would necessarily be better.

Ever wonder what the human world looked like before organzing itself for some greater good? And yes I do believe there was a time where humans existed before they "believed"

I don't know what it was like, but I think you can look over to your neighbors in the animal kingdom to begin to get a sense.

Christianity is a mind virus. Be angry with the virus, not it's carriers.

Christians have been brainwashed from an early age to believe that the Bible is a source of goodness. This is a meme that even spills over to some Non-Christians too. They read the Bible with rose colored glasses on. They go into it with a mindset that it must be good and when they come across the filth that is in there they whitewash it.

A similar phenomena happens to battered wives..they continue to love their husbands and make up faulty reasons excusing their abuse and will not accept that it is their husband's fault because of their belief that he is a good guy.

I have to agree with redeemedharts answer......

I am truly sorry for what you are going through. I really am! I only ask though that you take some time to actually KNOW that God's word has life's meaning. Life's Value! Nothing horrible about..... Blaspheming about God??

Sweetie, I honestly hope you have a chance to find the truth out for yourself. It really hurts to see you say those things against God's Word. Understand that ... MAN(Imperfect human!!)... and what MAN DOES(Commits SIN) .... has no excuse towards you and GOD'S relationship. SERIOUSLY!! So, not knowing the whole situation behind your anger, REGARDLESS...... God is the wrong ONE to attack! Take care of yourself and I really hope things (mind) get better.

I'm truly sorry that you feel this way. It's really a shame to have to live with such anger in your heart. Christians get bashed all the time for "pushing" their beliefs on others, aren't you doing the same? Can't you just let it go, as so many ask us to do? I am honestly not trying to be rude or sarcastic in any way, I just simply feel bad for how angry you are. God bless.
