How do they make recycled toilet paper sanitary to use without using chlorine bleach? Should I be afraid to use the stuff? How sanitary is it?

I know it's not made from old tp. I don't mean recycled from old toilet paper. I mean how sanitary is using paper on your privates from paper that used to be newspaper or office paper that was handled by so many unknown people.

Maybe guys don't have this problem. But I personally wouldn't want to use old newspaper on myself. Where does the paper come from, how do they collect post consumer paper, how do they sanitize it?

tyreanpurple: I don't know if I could use washable cloths as tp. I probably wouldn't have the time to keep cleaning them and I think the act of washing it out would just floor me!

Sarah: I really do hope they test the packages from time to time.

Reader's Digest and Sears catalog? Lol. What about the JCPenney Big Book? Maybe if I boil it then bake it in my oven then I can make my own recycled tp. I bet it would feel the same! ;)

Well figure to take old paper and make it into recycled paper they have to turn it back into a pulp type mixture. This removes the inks and stuff that are in the paper. But to do this they have to use extremely hot water to almost liquefy the paper back into pulp.

This water temperature alone kills all bacteria or germs that might be in the paper. No need for bleaching even though most do bleach it again just to make it white.

All paper that you see that is white has been bleached. Paper pulp is naturally light brown in color.

It is done though a very safe manner. In fact all paper is one. If you cannot use Toilet Paper then all paper and even some cheaper furniture is also crouped. Note that all recycle glass and other things that could of been used for a gross or dangers purpose before. Overall its very safe and it goes though a a lot to become safe. They do tests on everything I am sure someone has token toilet paper out from the package and examined it for germs and other stuff just to see what they could find. And if anything was found it would be all over the news. The 3 R's are safe Reduce , Reuse , Recycle flawless when it comes to safety.

Recycled paper is paper that contains fiber from waste paper. However, there is no universal agreement on the exact definition of this. The Paper Users' Environmental Forum Checklist states that recycled paper should include as high a proportion of post consumer waste fiber as possible. Post consumer waste is paper that has already been used for its final and intended purpose. Recycling paper is not only collecting wastepaper, but also using paper with recycled contents. Toilet paper with high-recycled content is neither expensive nor difficult to obtain.

The ink most news papers use is sterile and the levels of heat used to recycle paper makes it sanitary to use in delicate areas even after gruby fingers have touched it.

You know regular toilet paper also has bleach and sanitary pads have formaldehyde...If you're really scared, you can always use towels and wash them as they do in some countries. I don't know about you, butas for me though it bothers me I still use the darn paper products ' cause they're convenient and bother me just a little less than the alternative
