I've been down with the flu and trying to build up my immune system so I was thinking if I ate raw veggies and fruit if it would be more nutritious than cooked?

Some are better raw like peppers since vitamin C is destroyed by heat. Others are better cooked like tomatoes and carrots , because the antioxidants are more available when they're cooked. Maybe have some cooked and some raw. Thyme is a natural antibiotic; it's what they put in listerine. If you have some maybe you can boil it and drink thyme tea to help you fight.

Vegetables are better for you when raw, (except for potatoes... easier to digest when cooked). If you want cooked veggies, and get the best possible nutrition from them, leave all peelings on them (for fiber ) and steam them. But if you can eat them raw, that's the best way!

Yes, because some of the nutrients are destroyed in cooking. But, in your case it's too little too late. Your case of the flu will be gone before any good will come from the raw vegetables. Besides, with your being sick the cooked ones will digest best while you are recovering.

I was told that the only veggies that are better for you cooked than raw are carrots!

Maybe take some extra vitamin C as well?

Good Luck!

Cooking takes some of the vitamins and minerals out of the veggies...also better for fiber when eaten raw.

Some veggies taste nasty raw. The vitamins don't go away when you cook them. That's a myth.

It's best to eat them raw because you won't lose all the vitamins like you would if you cooked them. Hope you get to feeling better real soon!!!

there's no real difference in nutritional value between steamed and raw veggies. if you cook them another way, then there's obviously gonna be a difference. however, in reference to your immune system....drink oj, eat bannanas and oranges and other vitamin c rich foods.
