I am 47 yrs old,and the very first time I saw one of them VHS, tapes all I could think of was those funky ol' 8 track cartridges.Dude don't let any old guy try to tell you how great those things were,THEY SUCKED!Matter of fact they sucked so bad we actually thought cassettes were great, thats quite an comparison!Same thing with the VHS,only we just did'nt know what it was going to be,but we knew it was going to be something better, cheaper to make, and not as many (or any) moving parts, and boy did they come across!I figure in about 5-10 more years CD/ DVD's will be about the size of a Quarter and cost about the same as they do now,but that's just me talking.

Companies have been 'phasing out' video tapes for some time now, it is even difficult for a person to take their old videos in for money or trading anywhere (mostly i am refering to pawn shops where this is concerned). with the prices of dvd players as low as they are now media companies don't think that there is such a thing as a vhs anymore a good majority of homes have been 'upgrading' their entertainment due to the lack of availablility of the vhs but more so to keep up with what they view as the norm.

yes, and so is the CRT television. Insider note: is that the offices of consumer affairs has advised us in the trade to see video tapes and even CDs gone by 2012-2015 because of digital media and internet services. I won't publically state what format the US will be switching to because it's still being fought out in congress... But we have no choice but to see the end of US makers. There will still be small companies overseas who will be making them but the demand will be so low they wont see a profit. Already, tape sales have been a loss for all companies, but they keep on selling them without a profit in that market for almost five years now. Once dvd burn is peeked at 47% of US population you will see the sales of tape head overseas where they cant afford DVDr/w players.

VHS has been on it's way out for years. You can't even go into a Best Buy or Circuit City and find them anymore. Most movies aren't even made in the format. Regular DVDs will be the next to go with the advent of HD DVD and Blu-Ray. I don't know why the SuperBit DVDs never caught on because they looked and sounded great.

According to Adams Media Research, VHS sales have been failing fast since hitting a high of $6.3 billion in 1998. Sales fell to $1.2 billion in 2004 (from $2.3 billion in 2003) and are expected to generate only $700 million this year. The outlook has sales dropping to $400 million in 2006 and $200 million in 2007 before disappearing completely.

They are be phasing them out (slowly) for prerecorded movies, but not as fast for a home recording format. DVD home recording is catching on, but still has many bugs to get ironed out. So that transition might be a slower. That said, I'm not surprised at your dilemma. Most new movies are only on DVD.

It sucks, you can find most stuff if you look.
the problems is most people don't realize it but DVD's deteriorate. VHS tapes do to but not at the speed and to the extent that DVDs do.
I need to replace my super VHS VCR and so far only jvc makes one but their quality sucks. I've broken two in 4 years.
good luck

VHS is gone. With DVDs and the new Blue-Ray discs, VHS is a thing of the past. Thank God!

Yeah they have mostly done away with them, but you can still get them at some places, mostly the use for them now is to just record shows and stuff off of t.v , but later i guess everything is going to compact disc's.
