Most local governments will have laws about how close to streets, occupied buildings etc. you can discharge a firearm. Also in many areas it is illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits.

Even in areas where it is legal to shoot, some people who have been made fearful of firearms will call and complain if you practice. Check out local ranges. There are indoor ranges for sidearms.

If you are not used to shooting, take a class first, then practice as much as you can manage. Wear hearing protection.

It all depends on your local ordinances. There is no way anybody can give you a correct answer without knowing where you life. In many parts of the country it's perfectly normal and legal to take some guns out into a field and shoot at coke cans or water bottles. In other places if your neighbor even sees a gun it will likely result in a call into the police.

Almost all cities have laws against shooting a firearm in city limitis

Also if there is other housing around, it is a endagerment to others.

Now if you live in the county like I do, 3 of my 5 neighbors all have targets in thier front yard , one has it in his back yard, and they shoot guns all the time. One works on guns in the evening out of his home and he test fires them right off his front porch

You live in the city, you go to jail and the weaon is taken away
