Missile technician is the best job for handling weapons.

I KNOW this answer is completely false:

You can work with weapons in the airforce but the chance of ever using them in real life (unless you have a degree and are goining to be a pilot...and even then slim since most combat pilots are navy) is about zero.

I am a Security Force Wife and my husband has not only seen combat he has been injured in combat within the last year. He works with weapons, he secures and protects weapons, and he has used them in combat. There is a new wave of Security Forces in combat. If there wasn't why are me and my friends forced to live without our husbands for six to twelve months every six months.

So back to the question -- it really depends on what weapons you wish to work with. I know Security Forces get to work with every thing from small hand guns to the big ones on the hum-vees.

Good luck on your decision. If you become SF, may you stay safe. Send me an email if you do -- we are all family!

If you are interested in weapons systems you should go Army. The Army deals with more weapons systems than the Air Force. You could also go Explosive Ordinance Disposal. The Army is in great need of these and there is a nice bonus to boot. Contact your local recruiters for more info.

Hey I couldn't begin to list every MOS or AFSC that struts their stripes and plays with guns and bombs and munitions, whatever you wanna call em. Myself? I am a pre Iraq war 100% disabled veteran that got to serve for 8 years in the 2A6XX career field. I admit I was pretty sharp in Egress (ejection systems for combat aircraft) and also got to carry a 9 mil on my hip as a SF (security forces augmentee) on the weekends. Now, although I felt important, the closest I ever got to combat was the base firing range and the black and white sim targets. Woo hoo, now that I'm out I get more action on my land in Oklahoma capping frogs and grasshoppers. So, the best answer is what most of the military peeps have said here. Join another DOD brainchild if you want weapon action, not the AF.

Maybe, however, if you want to see combat go marines, guaranteed to go to Iraq. You can work with weapons in the airforce but the chance of ever using them in real life (unless you have a degree and are goining to be a pilot...and even then slim since most combat pilots are navy) is about zero. Good luck and god speed whatever your decision, but I warn you that if you want combat, you won't when you get to it, i promise. 2 years worth of nightmares isn't worth a few anecdotes (sp). Take care and I hope everything goes well

Depends on what kind of weapons you are talking about. For small arms and base defense weapons, Security Forces would be the way to go on that one. For any of the other major aircraft weapons, you could try Munitions Systems, or Aircraft Armament Systems. Those two would have you directly working with the aircraft weapons and weapons systems.
