1 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
2
"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? 2 They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal."
3
He said to them in reply, "And why do you break the commandment of God 3 for the sake of your tradition?
4
For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses father or mother shall die.'
5
4 But you say, 'Whoever says to father or mother, "Any support you might have had from me is dedicated to God,"
6
need not honor his father.' You have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
7
Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you when he said:
8
'This people honors me with their lips, 5 but their hearts are far from me;
9
in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.'"

Matthew 15

7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.
7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and [yet] none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Please, don't accuse me of not understanding the bible properly or picking and choosing certain scriptures. You tell me what Jesus meant when he said this. How do you know Jesus doesn't want you to follow these laws anymore? Did you ask him yourself? Where is it in the bible not to?

You have a great point. The decalogue (10 commandments) gets WAY too much hype these days. The only commands that are really pertinent to us our "Don't lie, steal, murder, or commit adultry, and of course have no other God's before YHWH." BUT...are not all these commands contained within the command of the new covenant.."Love one another as I have loved you..."...? Jesus tells us to love..love God and our neighbors..for "love us the fulfillment of the law."....
However, Jesus does seem to give his version of the 10 when the rich young man approaches him and asks him what he must do to have eternal life...
Still.....I think it's more important to focus on the spirit of the law, which is love, rather than commands which have little to do with us today...

Jesus was pointing out that a major change in the rules was about to take place, as happened in the Garden of Eden and when Moses brought down the Ten Commandments. The Commandments were made because man wanted to pretend that difference between good and sin was unclear (despite having gained that knowlegde in Eden), so God clarified with the Ten Commandments. After a while with rules, it was time that people should be able to tell good from evil, and use the rules as guidelines. Jesus pointed out that there are exceptions to be made to the commandments, but that the point to the commandments was to serve God and not evil. Therefore, if your commandment-breaking serves God, it is not a sin.

Upon the death of Jesus, the commandments have been simplified to three -- love God, love others, and love yourself. You'll see that Christians are now held to a higher standard than the commandments, and that the ten commandments are included in the three new guidelines, except in rare circumstances. Now we must act as God wants us to, without using loopholes in the law God gave us in the Old Testament. This is what Jesus meant when he told us he didn't come to destroy the law, that he came to establish it.

Jesus fulfilled the Law by means of his instance. The method he lived right here on this planet. The Pharisees and Sadducees manipulated the Law to raise themselves. They have been hypocrites. Jesus didn't come to get rid of the Law however to meet by means of obeying God's commandments and loving the unlovely. Doing those 2 matters - you're going to now not holiday any of the ten commandments. Also, the Law might now not deliver salvation via the atonement of sins.

boopie-- i dont know that if he would condemn you or not--- look how he handled the woman at the well-- he did not condemn her--on the other hand, understand that there are all kinds of laws that the Father made..... physical laws for example....like gravity... if you choose to break that law you may pay a price.... jump out of a plane with no chute-- the consequences may be pretty bad---- if you break spiritual laws like the commandments.. there will probably also be a price to pay..... steal-- u may get caught and go to jail....the commandments are not for the Fathers benefit--- He doesnt have those problems --- they are for ours ....and the condemnation is already kinda built in-- in the OT there were specific punishments for those offenses--in the NT there are none mentioned

Yes, Jesus would condemn (declare to be wrong) when a person breaks the commandments. BUT, Jesus hates the sin but loves the sinner. The Bible teaches " All have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God." Since the first people on earth..Adam & Eve, mankind has fallen into sin. Sin..aka, breaking the commandments. . But, Why did Jesus come to the earth, teach, heal, preach, show the way to forgivness=salvation, suffer and die? So we could be forgiven. Forgivness means thrust in Him. Believing in Him. Accepting what He did for us to secure our salvation. The way to salvation is faith. Faith in God. Faith in Jesus way of redemption. The Bible teaches "By grace are we saved by faith." Believing, having faith, should cause a person to admit his/her sin and turn from it. Repent of it and strive to commit it no more.

Friend Jesus never said he came to do away with the Law.... of course we are to follow the commandments of God.... yet everyone of us has broken at least one of them at some point in our lives.... thats why the word also tells us "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Should we strive to keep the commandments? Absolutly... will we be condemned if we fail.... only if we do not seek his forgivness and accept the gift of salvation he offers us through his grace.
God bless you :)

No Jesus wouldn't condemn us for not following the Ten Commandments... in fact... Jesus said on a couple of occassions that we are to love God with our whole heart mind and spirit and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves... and in doing that we would fulfill the law and the prophets...

The issue Jesus had with Pharisees and most "Religious" people is that they get caught up in following the letter of the law while ignoring the SPIRIT of the law. It's like... ok... so what if you go to church every week but as soon as you get home, you're on the phone bad-mouthing someone. Or who cares if you've never committed murder physically if you've gone out of your way to ruin someone's reputation... killing them emotionally is just as bad as killing them physically...

Tit 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Joh 12:44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
Joh 12:45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
Joh 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Joh 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Hope this helps you,
