Surgical alternatives to total hip replacement include hip resurfacing (the femoral head is not removed as in THR; rather it is "shaved" smooth and capped with a metal cover. It may have a metal acetabular component as in THR or is sometimes done similarly to a hemiarthroplasty (see below). Other surgical treatments include osteotomy (the femur is cut and re-aligned to change the direction of forces across the arthritic hip); hip fusion (this was used before the era of hip replacement surgery); hemiarthroplasty (sometimes used on patients where the hip ball is damaged but the socket cartilage is normal). Hip arthroscopy may have a role in relieving some patients' hip pain but I don't think it can be called an alternative to THR - it's more of a diagnostic procedure.

Please be aware that all of the above surgical treatments are not necessarily appropriate for all patients. Factors such as condition of remaining cartilage (if there is any), age of the patient, nature of the problem (e.g. osteoarthritis, inherited deformity, hip injury, necrosis, etc.) will certainly influence the choice of treatment.

Non-surgical treatments can include exercise, walking aids, and medication. Sometimes corticosteroids are used and they may be injected into the hip joint giving some patients pain relief for a time.

For more information on hip problems and their treatment, see this website developed by a Swedish ortho surgeon as a service to patients (in slightly fractured English translation).

Proper diet (low glycemic), moderate excercise, for you low impact ie: swimming (most cities have pools or hotels that can accomodate) and proper cellular nutrition for our 2 billion cells. This hip problem did not rear its head overnight and rebuilding the tissue will take a little while but as far as cost effectiveness it is well worth it. Our made in heaven bodies have been blessed with awesome natural healing powers if we let them heal. For this you can either eat about 150 lbs of food a day or take high quality nutritional supplementation. You will need active calcium, essentials (chelated minerals/anti-oxidants), bio-omega fatty acids, and procossa II (mainly glucosamine sulfate, manganese, molybdenum, tumeric extract) in pharmecutical grade quality to ensure effectiveness (within .5% of accuracy to the label vs food grade 20% accurate). With this it will rebuild the joints as long as you can follow all three steps to ensure no further damage!

the prospect are a similar as with all important surgical operation and sedation. it oftentimes is okay and no important issues. searching on age, well being, psychological status the restoration is lengthy and painful. i understand someone who had theirs replaced and some how they ended up splitting his femur and they had to do a 2d substitute interior of three weeks of one yet another on a similar hip. yet this isn't some thing that takes position. restoration is a slow procedure and he or she will be able to go back to a call on someone including her finished time for awhile.
