The ring represents the office of Bishop. To kiss the ring is a sign of respect for the office.

Yeah, i'm Catholic too. whether i did no longer pass to Catholic college that sounds merely like what the Nuns might say. Ha! i'm a convert and went by using Cathechism and the question by no potential got here up. In my own ideas it quite is performed out of appreciate for what the hoop stands for, the Church. i do no longer think of you're compelled to do it. it quite is not a mortal sin yet I wager you may get a team of the Hail Mary's and Our Fathers in case you probably did no longer.

It's not just during confirmation.

Many churches hold to the old traditions that bishops, cardinals, and the pope all have their ring kissed as a sign of respect. The ring itself is a part of their vestments (holy garments).

Contrary to the rumors, the rings do not contain any type of holy relic.

yeah and these same people believe that a man is watching them 24/7 from the sky...or another universe. Some guy they have never seen, touched, felt...(well some feel him) He has left no evidence other than something written by primitive men. Did I mention that men have incredibly huge egos? Religion is a joke and so are the people following it.
