Okay this may be a dumb question but I don't care, I just wanna know what people think. My husband is a US Marine and he gets really upset when he sees the new commercial advertising the Corps because there's and african american one and then a caucasian one. Why is that do you think?

I'm sorry to say this, but there are still many parts of America where people of different colours aren't too keen about each other. When I was in the military, such things were completely unimportant. But many civilians aren't quite so open-minded, I'm afraid. They probably lack the experience of getting to work with many good people of all colours that people in the military usually get to have!

I think that their reasoning is good. Unfortunatley the marines (like other extreme sports or extreme lifestyles) is dominated by white men. I am not speaking from stats...I know because I was in. Their are maybe 1 for every 40 african americans in the marines. I don't know why, but mainly it is whites and latino americans (or people from latin america trying to get their citizenship) in my bootcamp plattoon.. out of 84 there was one black guy. So I think they might betrying to cater to black men as well. The army on the other hand is almost half black (speaking from stats not experience). So Maybe they are trying to up the belief that marines are not predjudice... I don't truly know but those seem to be ample points..

To appeal to both ethnic groups so that many will join the Marine Corps just like any other marketing strategies.

They want to appeal to the different races, but I agree that's it dumb. I saw the same thing for a Wal-Mart commercial for some new clothing line. It was the same exact commercial, one white girl, and another with a black girl, same outfit and everything!!! It does seem somewhat racist.

The USMC is desperate. Noboby complains when African Ameicans die for their country.
Any one who has been in the USArmy knows the value of these soldiers.

pretty obvious - marines have 2 of everything so that when they break the first one they can go "hey, look, duh, I got another one"
