Tomato, potato, eggplant, and capsicum are all species of the nightshade family of plants. other species in this family were in olden times used as a poison.
So these plants contain same poiseners, but on a smaller scale. Unless triggered by something then become toxic. Ie green potatos.

It is said that they are poisonous due to a chemical within it when it is green. Green skin on potatoes is caused by exposure to the light. This makes the potato bitter and inedible. Potatoes eyes are poisonous.

Potatos that come to the surface of the ground during growth will turn green from exposure to sunlight. This causes the chemical change that make them poisonous.

If meat turned green it would be spoiled. Potatoes that turn green do it because they are exposed to sunlight and it changes their composition. They are not spoiled, as in rotten.
