I am taking a trip to another state for mid January. Will it cost me more if I buy my ticket now or should I just wait until after New Years Day? (It will be for 2 weeks)

Yes and no. Airlines use very complicated formulas that dictate fare prices continuously. The algorithm is beyond explanation for most people. In other words, fare prices swing up and down regardless of whether you buy it early or last minute as it responds to real time passenger buying and reservation trends. However, you are less likely to get a cheap fare just before a big holiday season but at the same time you may have a very small chance of getting a super cheap fare during that same time period due to last minute cancellations. The only sure fire way to get the best deal is to constantly monitor as many airlines fares starting several months ahead (and if you haven't bought a ticket yet) up until the day before the flight. It's tedious but worth it sometimes.

Air fares are constantly going up - you should book now for January as many schools are still on break and tickets could be hard to come by - nowadays it does not pay to wait to purchase a ticket, so do it soon.

I travel several times a month and it really pays to order as far in advance as possible for the best rates. Keep checking the rates after you purchase - like in Dec. and Jan before your trip - in the past I have found rates lower after I purchased and called the airline - in some cases they reduced my fare.

But with the price of gas combined with airline layoffs, etc. fares are not likely to go down. Good Luck :)

Yes. It will cost more if you buy during th eholiday season simply because a lot of people will be travelling by then. They all want to go home to their families or whatnot and the airlines take advantage of that.

Usually, the earlier you purchase your ticket the better the price.
