God promised never to FLOOD the earth again, that is the sign of the rainbow, His promise. Next time the world will be destroyed with fire.

The flood was the baptism, cleansing of the world, and fire will be the confirmatiom..

God only promised to never again do a world wide flood.

Here's a probable tsunami for you, in the Book of Revelation:

Rev 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone, as it were a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying: With such violence as this, shall Babylon, that great city, be thrown down and shall be found no more at all.

No matter what "God" said, this is the facts...

If global warming continues to increase, the polar ice caps will continue to melt. This will result in the global water level increasing. As a result many island and coastal areas will be under the water, and people will have to move inland.

So in your words, "the ocean will wipe out people in coastal areas".

Oh and in relation to your mermaids comment, "Are you serious?"!!!!!

God promised that he would never again destroy the earth by water... but he did not promise never to destroy the earth again at all...

Um... as for being mermaids... well... I think Disney pretty much as that market cornered, so we're probably out of luck there.

After the flood, God promised to never destroy the earth by water.

Gen 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart [is] evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
Gen 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Gen 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which [is] between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

No, you would not be a mermaid. You would be dead as the rest of those are dead that God destroyed.

But, there is a day coming when all the wicked, like those who were mentioned above will stand before God and be condemned to an eternity in the lake of fire. The next time God destroys the earth, it will be by fire:

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

But, you don't HAVE to go there.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Isa 43:10 Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa 43:11 I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Hope you make the right decision before it is too late for you.

With the amount of water presently on earth, no. Even if the polar caps melt completely, the vast majority of land would remain dry. There simply isn't enough water anywhere on earth to flood the earth, and there never has been.
