My boyfriend is getting a tattoo on his sholder blade. He is getting the catholic cross tattooed on his sholder blade. He would like to get the thorns that Jesus wore on his head tattooed around the top of the cross. Is this bad or disrespectful in any way to get this done?

My personal opinion is that tattoos are disrespectful to your own body. Your body is a masterpiece. Would you spray paint graffiti on a precious masterpiece painting? Probably not. Then why would a Christian mark up their body, which is the temple of God. That is how I feel about tattoos anyway. I know many fine people that have lots of them, they're just not for me is all.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

No. I don't think so. It all depends on the intention.

Seems like he's doing this out of reverence so it should be ok.

Little trivia: Supposedly the place that caused Christ the most pain was the Cross digging into His scapular bone, so your boyfriend getting it on the shoulder blade has an extra meaning. God bless ^_^

Yes. It is unscriptural to get tattoos on your body.

It depends on what the thorns mean to him. If they represent the pain and torture his savior went thru for his sins that I would be proud of him. He has to find that answer in him self. I would give a reason why it could be wrong but can't think of one so I say go for it!

Body art can be beautiful.
But whether he should get it done might depend upon how closely he wants tp follow God's Word....

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Not if its done with respect. But seriously tatooing is forbidden by Biblical Standards. For a lot of good reasons.

well, in many churches they have a large cross with a crown of thorns hanging on it and such, but that is in a sanctuary, not on a body. I think that if he is christian he should pray about it before he does it, ask God what he would think of it and then really listen.

Sudy Nim reminded me of this prayer................

PRAYER TO THE SHOULDER WOUND OF CHRIST

O Loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I miserable sinner, salute and worship the most Sacred Wound of Thy Shoulder on which Thou didst bear Thy heavy Cross, which so tore Thy flesh and laid bare Thy Bones as to inflict on Thee an anguish greater than any other wound of Thy Most Blessed Body. I adore Thee, O Jesus most sorrowful; I praise and glorify Thee, and give Thee thanks for this most sacred and painful Wound, beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain, and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy Cross to be merciful to me, a sinner, to forgive me all my mortal and venial sins, and to lead me on towards Heaven along the Way of Thy Cross. Amen.

I don't think it's disrespectful, but personally I don't like tattoos.
