Hi...when I was younger, I had the same situation. My son was seven, at the time (he's 22 now). My son slept on the sofa sleeper, which is just a pull out bed in the couch. You can also purchase a futon. Make sure that if you do this, your child should have some place that is 'just his'. Even if it is just a special place for his toys, or a table for him to sit and color and play...that is important for children, as they need a place they can call their own.
One other alternative is if you are all going to be in one room, is to divide the room. As someone previously mentioned...an actual screen divider is helpful. Also, here is a neat idea, and might be a little less expensive. Why don't you hang a nice Tab Topped Curtain, from the ceiling? You can suspend a rod all the way across, or on each side of ceiling to meet in the middle. I used this idea in a little different way, when I removed my daughter's sliding closet doors. I used nice brushed nickel rods and rings. It looks so nice, and is more functional now. By the way...I am a Licensed Real Estate Agent and see alot of houses and decorate quite a bit. I hope this helps you.

If the move is temporary I would say get a sofa sleeper or futon for the adults in the living room and let your son sleep in the room, with all three of you sharing the rest of the bedroom. If it's a year or more than I would suggest getting a full size bed for the adults and a twin loft bed for the boy, placed as far from each other as the room space allows. Then you can make the space under the loft bed the personal space of the child and you can arrange the rest of the room for adult space, and you can use a decorative divider if space allows and for privacy. Good luck!

We used the family bed for years, with a crib pushed right up to our bed so the baby could sleep there if she wanted. It's really useful when the child wakes up in the middle of the night and is sick or something.
You could always have sex in the living room and keep the bedroom for just sleeping. That way you wouldn't have to keep putting away the child's bed when you have visitors.
I think it's really important for kids to be with adults, and learn to share space with them. It's good for the adults, too (-:.

It may sound weird but who cares! Have you considered bunk beds (twin over twin) for the grown ups? it saves a lot of floor space and baby beds are pretty small. Or a pull out couch for you guys in the living room and your dresser in the bedroom where the boy will have his bed.

It's fairly easy to hang a dividing curtain in a room...
Personally though, I would just invest futon for the living room. Let the boy have the bedroom and make the living room dual purpose for the adults.

Try to see if you can arrange furniture or use a screen so your son can have a little private space. It'll be really important for all of you to get away at least visually.

Yes! I think even for two adults that would be considered on the small side(under 1000sq ft). So if there are children too it is very small.

my first idea, don't. put yourself and your boyfriend in the bedroom and your child in the living room. personally, i don't think it's a good idea to have you all in one bedroom; you and your boyfriend need your alone-time and the child can handle being on a sofa bed or some kind of makeshift bed in the living room.

When me and my wife had our first child we were in the same problem so we gave the room to our son and we took the living room..and for a while when our daughter was born she had the couch. Any thing can work if you want.

The bunkbed with the big bed on bottom, small one on top. So when you're doing it, he can't see.
