I use an eagle creek soft sided brief case that I guess they don't make any more. It's expandable and holds quite a bit. I have been using it as a briefcase and carryon for over 12 years. I have another one that is like their Guide Bag, that I have been using close to 18 years.

They have a number of different bags, like there Carryon ES, which looks like a fat laptop bag, or Transit Tote ES, which looks more like a womans tote but, does come in black so your husband would look good with it too. Or their Women's Tote, its a bit larger and has a number of compartments. They all seem to come in 3 different color schemes. So, you have a choice. The also have a rollable Wheeled InFlight Tote, it's a bit expensive to me. They are really well built similar if not better than Samsonite or American Tourister. They are sold in general at Sport Chalet, Sports Authority stores in the United States. Though you can order online at the website I gave previously.

Good luck

just be careful on how big of piece of luggage u bring, because last time i flew, my sister had a borderline big bag, and in Frankfurt they made her check it. I would say if its a short trip, get a big backpack. The nice thing about backpacks is when u get to where you're going and you have a place to leave some of your things, you have a bag when you're out sight seeing or whatever. Thats the way i do it anyways!
