it causes bacteremia- A sample of blood on a slide was shown in an example of treating someone who had bacteria in their blood-with substance called Goji- a Himalayan berry. The specimen looked as though it had some small cocci moving among the rbc's- but I was taught that the blood could not have bacteria in it, unless the person was in a dangerous condition.

Bacteremia is different from scepticemia. Bacteremia is just the prescence of bacteria in the blood. They can be in small quantities which are entirely dealable by the immune system, and so it is often detrimental to take antibiotics, although in most cases they are perscribed to be on the safe side. Scepticemia is the dangerous one of the two - it is an infection of the blood and I would expect hospitalisation with this as it is very serious.
I agree with the other two - this Goji isn't worth buying. If the blood sample was just from someone with bacteremia then i would expect the immune system to deal with it, at least to a certain extent.

All this being said, it jas just occured to me that you normally get bacteremia when an infection is spreading from one site to another, so then antibiotics would be perscribed.

You are right! Blood is a STERILE fluid, meaning there is not supposed to be any bacteria in it. Having a detectable amount of bacteria in your blood is very bad and you need hopitalization and anitbiotics to cure it. I know there are people out there called "blood analysts" who claim to find bacteria and yeast in your blood and then want to sell you different herbs and supplements to "cure you". If you had bacteria or yeast in your blood you would have a fever and probably not feel very good. Also, if this person was able to see bacteria in a small amount of blood on a slide then the person whose blood it was would have to have a very high concentration of bacteria throughout their bloodstream. This would definetly make them REALLY sick. I have never been to one of these "blood analysts" but my aunt has asked me about them and I personally think they are full of it. I am a med lab technologist and I have worked in micorbiology and what these blood analysts do goes against everything I have been taught. Don't believe them, they are just trying to sell you stuff.

Listen to SarahG. she knows what she is talking about. What you saw was bunk, and I assure you that if goji had this massive antibacterial action it would currently be used to save lives. Pure bunk.
