She needs to see a dermatologist, it could be melanoma (skin cancer) or just "age spots". Age spots can be removed but melanoma has 4 stages and in the first 2 they aren't fatal but in the 3rd and 4th stage the cancer can get into a persons blood stream and work it's way to a major organ. I don't mean to scare you, I had a mole removed and this is what my Doctor said because it was getting darker. There are so many factors with melanoma and it is a silent killer also. Mine was benign, I pray the same for her.

I suggest appointment with dermatologist immediately. Reason being malignant melanoma. Odds are your mother doesn't have this, however the hallmark sign, text book picture, is a blackened area on the body. At the moment I would put off those home remedies and go to the dermatologist. My step-mom is 57 and at the age of 44 she had a darken area come up on her thigh and it was malignant melanoma the most deadly form of skin cancer. She is doing great today. Please don't think I'm trying to alarm you, it's just it should be checked out. Thanks for the opportunity to address such an important question, your mom should be proud, having a daughter such as you looking out for her.

Don't mess around with this. Could be skin cancer or melanoma. Very serious and spreads rapidly. Check it out with a Dr.

I believe I know what you're talking about as my mom has one as well (circular spot on her temple). I believe it's due to a fluctuation in hormones. Have her go see a dermatologist.
