There's a New Testament passage that talks about the unbelieving spouse being "saved" by the believing spouse - where is it? And - what does it mean exactly? If the Unbeliever never changes their stance - what happens when they both die? Does the spiritual oneness with the Believer mean the Unbeliever goes to Heaven also? Or does it just mean that if the Believer lives an exemplary non-antogonistic life with the Unbeliever - then the Unbeliever will come around to Believing?

Misquote...

The non-believing spouse is SANCTIFIED by the believer.

Sanctified means to be set apart for God's use, or change. The non-believer is witness to the lifestyle of the believer, and parttakes of the blessings bestowed on the household because of the believer's relationship with God.
The Lord is singling the non-believer out to let him/her see the evidence and fruit of being saved.

Each person is responsible for themselves. If you have talked a blue streak and set the proper example the only recourse you have left is prayer and patience.

Now when the Isrealites went into the promised land and they had an unbelieving spouse...as long as the spouse did what the Isrealites did he was saved through the believing spouse .

1Corinthians 7:14says the unbeliever is sanctified in relation to the believer as long as they stay together so that the children will be holy.

The bible promises the meek will inherit the earth in Psalms 37..and they will live on the earth forever. They do not go to heaven.

The bible was written to the 144,000 that do go to heaven to rule as kings and priests with Christ for only 1000 years. Then the messianic kingdom ends and the rule of the perfected earth and the people on it will be handed back to The Almighty God. ( Rev 14)

I truly wish it were that way. The scripture is talking about a spouse being an example to the unbelieving spouse so that hopefully by that example the unbelieving spouse can come to know the Lord. But each individual will stand before God and give an answer for their PERSONAL response to the calling of God.

First Corinthians Chapter 7.
That passage talks about the conditions for separation or divorce.
We are to stay in our marriage unless there is adultery, neglect... because we are meant by God to live in peace.
It is when, which was my case, a married person finds God and the other does not. Their is discord, disagreement on basic things and it is God's will that the believer show the life in Christ in such a way that the unbelieving spouse is attracted and believes.
Read the chapter - it is very clear and a guideline for marriage.

I think I finally found it: 1 Corinthians 7:10-16.
I think that due to a believer's conduct and way of exercising a Christian conscience, the non-believing mate may come around. I think the 'sanctifying' in verse 14 is in reference to the marital bond, considering the 2nd half of that verse says "...otherwise your children would really be unclean..."
I like to think that as a blessing to the believer, God's patience is really extended way out there on behalf of the unbelieving one. Certainly that's what most persons married to unbelievers pray for, um?

1 Peter 3:1-7. According to the NIV, a better translation is "won over" by the behavior of their wives, not "saved". In other words, set a good example by how you live, and this might persuade your husband to become a christian too.

Actually the word is "sanctified", not saved. No one is saved by osmosis.....each person needs to be responsible for their own choice about who Jesus is. A nonbeliever, though, has a very good chance of being born again if married to a praying wife (or husband)....because nothing is more powerful than prayer.

I think you are correct in the latter assumption that the unbeliever may come around to believing because of the example set by the believer in the home.

The bible is pretty clear that we need to decide for ourselves.

No one can be saved by following, imitating or depending on other people. Each individual can only save himself by learning and practicing the teachings of the Messenger of God, including prayer for divine grace.

It says they are sanctified for staying with the believer, but it does not say they are saved. The only way to eternal life is through confession of Jesus as savior.
