In more detail, when at a 4 way traffic light, if a car is making a left and a car is going straight, the driver going straight has the right of way. I'm really wanting to know why does the driver going straight just sit there like the person going left should be the one going first?

If it's a light, yes, the driver going straight has the right of way. If it's at a 4-way stop sign, whichever car stops first has the right of way. If the lights aren't working (flashing whatever colours), treat it like a 4-way stop. The driver you saw was probably on the cell phone, eating some fast food, while trying to find directions. That's how bad some of these people are....

Suchaprettyface11's thought she was at a Four Way Stop Sign.
That must be the Anwer - the Drivers in the USA can't tell the difference between a four way Traffic Light and a Four Way Stop Sign!!!!

it could be defensive driving, common politiness,or if you're meaning a 4 way traffic stop, then it's because most people DO NOT know the proper way to proceed through these.people going north and south are not suppose to go at the same time like most do.it is always to the right.maybe you should get your drivers ed.book out and see what i am saying.

before you start driving you need to pass your state law. You dont just know it you study for it as you can tell from all the different answers, it depends on where you are from. Most lights here have turn lanes and it will tell you when it is your turn

It goes in order from who got there first, not which way a person is turning. You take turns in order from who got to the stop sign first, second, third.....
