Is it safe/ok to take 2 tylenol with 2 Ibuprofen? I heard you can do that for optimal pain and anti-inflammatory results. I didn't know if it was safe to take them both together.

I hardly ever take anything for pain, but my back has been bothering me so that's why I was wondering. Thanks for all your good comments!

I wouldnt recommend it. Ask your doctor! Here in Australia a couple of years ago Ibuprofen was proven to have dangerous side affects when mixed with other medicines (bleeding of the internal organs). You never know what is safe and what is dangerous when it comes to mixing ibuprofen.

What might be ok for one person, may not be for another. Every persons body is different. Be careful...read the back of the packet and if you unsure always ask for advice from your pharmacist or health care professional.

I just had surgery and called about just that, and apparently it's fine. As a matter of fact I was told to take all 4 at the same time. My problem was that the Tylenol with codeine didn't seem to help much at all. After a few days of taking both I got off the Tylenol all together. Call to make sure yourself though since I am not a doctor. This is just what I was told when I called my pharmacist.

How many milligrams of ibuprofen are you taking? If you want optimal pain relief, you can take 800 mg. of ibuprofen every 8 hours - WITH FOOD. No need to take tylenol, too. Too much tylenol can really affect your liver. If you take ibuprof. a lot, then you should tell your doctor & have periodic blood tests to make sure your liver is processing it ok. He may be able to help you with your problem, too.

Actually some Doctors recommend that you alternate them....2 Tylenol, then 2 hours later 2 Ibuprofen...not to exceed the recommended dose of either in a 24 hour period! Check with YOUR Doctor's office!

I took my son to the E.R. not too long ago and they told me I could give him both Tylenol and Ibuprofen because they are two different medicines. They are used for simialr things but Tylenol is more for fever as Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory. Hope you feel better.

My son had an ear infection and tylenol didn't work.....to my amazement, the doctor said to give him advil as well.....just alternate them every 2 hours or so. If that's all right for a child, i guess it's fine for adults!

Good Luck!

My chiropractor recently told me that Ibuprofen is the leading cause of people having to go on dialysis. He said it used to be a prescription drug only but they turned into an OTC drug. He said that alot of people take it every day and it can cause kidney failure. You might want to check into that before taking it at all.

I would look into safer more natural alternatives.
