if one person doesn't want to live anymore, they might as well give someone their perfectly good heart, kidneys, liver, whatever. Is there anywhere to do this?

Why not jump off the roof of a hospital with an organ doner card in their wallet?

If there is someone in this world who wished to end their own life, yet is thoughtful enough to consider helping others live, maybe this person should take a look at why they wish to help others go on? Because all life is precious. And maybe they should find strenght within themself to face whatever is causing them to end their life, change the situation or accept it.Then maybe this person can do something with their future to help others in need live longer.Imagine what our world would be like if those who changed history for the better killed themselves? So many life saving inovations would not exist.Im quite sure that the recipient of donor organs of a suicidal person would always feel badly somehow knowing a "lost soul" ended their own life and thats how they got organ to go on living. The person considering this should realize how precious life is and hold on to it.

I certainly pray that you are not contemplating suicide. Donated organs being viable for transplant would depend on the way that death is accomplished, and how long the body is undiscovered. Generally speaking, organs must be harvested immediately upon death, and if they have been subjected to any type of trauma, disease or drugs they cannot be used. But this is not the core of your question, and you know that. Seek help, whether it be a clergy memeber or other trusted adult. If this is not you, but someone you know who is contemplating suicide, TELL someone NOW!! Prayers are being said for you and yours!

Jessica is correct. If the body is found hours after death there is not much which can be harvested if anything. The person has to die in the hospital so the organs can be gotten quickly. Dead organs are no good.

There is a new donor program out where you can be matched up for spare organs (Lung, kidney). Contact the local cancer society to find out where to go.
This way you can see how well your donation is doing.

You can donate , make out a paper at the driverl license facility. Do not kill yourself it only makes your enemies happy. Simply enjoy your life!! Make yourself happy, even if it pisses people off. SOmetimes people do not expect change from a person they know. They do not like it. Change yourself. It can be done!

sephiroth is right! people need help so they don't commit suicide. the violence in this world is bad enough without us killing ourselves now too! also, depending on how someone kills themselves, their organs may not be able to be used. you can fill out the back of your driver's license and also tell family members how you feel about it. but, more importantly, don't do it alison!

You just need to make it known that you wish to be an organ donor.

(In Australia this is done via our driver's licence or through a will if you have one. We can also get organ donor's cards to carry on us)
