I have a small bedroom with a black bedroom set-queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and armoire. The walls are white with tan carpet. I went out and purchased a sateen black down comfort with a set of soft pink sheets but Im not sure Im going to be able to use it because there is just way way to much black. Can anyone suggest any ideas. Im just wanting a room that is pretty soft and romantic. I love the new furniture but I dont have any idea on how to decorate with it. Im not a "red" person, its never been one of my favorite colors. Any ideas on whether i should return the comforter and sheets and start over? I have no accents pieces yet so Im starting fresh.

pink works with black, tan works with pink, but I am not sure if you want to try all three. Maybe pull back on the pink to small items like alarm clock, bookends and such. Tan or white would be the best bet for the rest of the room. If you can paint, try a tan for 3 walls, leave 1 white and any trim white( paint is cheap and if you are renting be sure to ask first). You may want to use a throw blanket and some light decorative pillows on top of the bed to break up the black and try table runners or doylies on top of your cases. But if you are tight on money, Return the comforter and sheets to try something different.Maybe plain black and white will be pleasing, kinda go art-deco.

Return the comforter and sheets and get a black and white pattern, a grey, or a brassy golden color.

With all that black furniture, you need BRASS lamps and accessories. Consider brass switchplates on the wall for the lights, etc. The bedding should have some white or gold or both in it.

Those white walls are going to reflect a lot of light and help make the room look less black -- you need lithographs or prints (all from a single "school" of painting, probably all with brass metal frames).

This is a very formal bedroom, think about lightening it up with a large stuffed animal or something comical.

If you really like the furniture you could perhaps get some soft pink doilys or table mats to break the black. Another suggestion is splatter the furniture with soft pink paint. However if the furniture is new you may not want to do that. My daughter did it with an old bedroom suite and it really looked good and added a touch of individuality to it. The tranfers that you soak in water and then apply is another idea.

I have lots of black furniture..."Hitchcock" is the manufacturer (very Connecticut Yankee) and it 18th century black tole or black decorator colonial in design...I'm kind of a collector...it mixes well with everything. The white wall is good. As for a comforter I'd go for an Olde Gold color, Put a fake oriental carpet in front and runner on side to give it a pick up. Something with black and gold in it, with rust or hint of red. You already have a good base color for the carpet. It works well with contemporary as well. I think you'll be happy with it...looks smart and neat. Good luck...have fun.

my boyfriend painted our bedroom a deep red and put specks of glitter in it, the glitter is so small that it simply looks like a gloss paint when the light hits it, anyway I had no idea how to match this up, my bed was black with wood ends.. So i bought a black comforter. and red sheets. my dressers are a deep wood like the bed ends and I put a black desk and chair in there, because the deep colors make a room look smaller I put a black framed large mirror on the walls, only low enough to look at our faces in.

I did leopard print to go with that color scheme before. To me blue also looks good with black and tan. You could try getting a pink comforter and buy your sheets and pillow cases seperate and make some black and some pink.

You could do several things you could just add several punches of color throughout the room (any color goes with black) curtains, pillows, candles, and maybe a plant like a palm depending on your taste. Or maybe you could go with a bedspread that's black with really big white flowers or one really big white flower. Long silky white curtains white candles and you could even add another color if you wanted.
