Please, don't make us all look bad. I'm Roman-Catholic and have listened to what atheists have had to say. Jesus would never force anything on his brothers and sisters and those of you who threaten non-Christians with hell among other things are nominal Christians at best. I'm not going to try to convert them, remember free will that is bestowed on all men? If they live good lives (and there is a universal way of living a good life, loving one another as we would want to be loved) then let them believe what they want. If SOME atheists (sorry to those who are respectful ones) continue to give you a hard time, turn the other cheek. Atheists, I also ask you to do the same if some fire and brimstone type gives you the bum rush. Just because Jesus teaches to forgive doesn't mean it's wrong, right? Like the trailer for that movie Babel reads... If you want to be understood, listen.

I'm not trying to spark a battle between theists and atheists at all. I'm just asking those on each side who act like assholes to lay off one another for the sake of all of us who are tired of it. It's such a headache, no?

I dare not compare myself to Christ, that's a one way ticket to excommunication. I'm just saying the basis of all His teachings was love. He did anger plenty with His teachings of the new law (loving one another regardless) and by saying that the old law was kaputnik. He taught hell to those who WANTED to listen and didn't attack those who didn't wanna hear it.

The Bible does teach to preach but it doesn't teach to attack (unless you get into the old testament, ha). Preaching to deaf ears is certainly a way to come off as incredibly rude, thus making Christians as a whole come off as pushy and arrogant. btw, Sudy Nim, terrific answer.

Oh my. Who is teaching you that living a good life and denying the gift of salvation that God offers through his Son's mercy is a way to eternal union with God? It isn't.

While others will certainly believe what they want, and while it is not within my power to convert them, it is certainly within my power--and it is my obligation--to point out the one Way to heaven. To fail to do so would be a grave disservice.

im a Roman-Catholic too. (catholic means being a christian or struggling to follow Christ and be holy- universally( most of the times--you are tested, tempted, suffers, sacrifices, provoked, insulted).-- as human beings, we are somehow weak enough to stand, and sometimes control our emotions.. so we neglect to live with the spirit, most of the times, we are controlled by the flesh.. and is the one Must that we need to work for-- our Faith.

we are hurt and insulted whenever people won't acknowledge our GOD, because we love HIM, but the problem is, we don't show it or we find it hard to express our gratitude and Love for HIM, so we just fight as simply humans commonly do.

it shouldn't be a must to act so rude, it contradicts the good word LOVE.

well, we just have to respect each other.
surely, GOD works in mysterious ways...

i just remember a true incident that tells, >there was an atheist couple who fought very violently and hurt each other, which caused their death, and their son witnessed and experienced it all.

when the couple was burried, the son was sent to an orphanage where incidentally managed by nuns. in a class where the boy sat in.. one of the nuns presented a picture of a Man, and asked the class who knew the Man.. nobody answered. to the nuns surprise, the son of the couple stood up, and said, "i know Him, that Man was the once carrying me, when the night my parents died". the man on the picture was Jesus.

well, the boy might have an atheist parents, or he could be an atheist, but that doesn't limit GOD to bless love to HIS children. we are all GOD's children, HE is our Maker, and it doesn't matter what your raise or religion is.. HE loves unconditionally, even if you might forget to Love HIM back.

=)

I am definitely not a christian, (but I do believe in God) and I have to say from my own personal experience, it is not Catholics who are obnoxious, in fact they have been mostly understanding and tolerant. They even seem more educated and refined. It's the protestants, especially the southern baptist and the holy roller-speaking-in-tongues kind who need to read scripture and act in a more 'brotherly' fashion. I think it's taught at the pulpits to act the way they do, and it's shameful. I do not mean to bash the faith, just the obnoxious actions of some of them.

For some Christians human nature takes over and an answer is given before we stop and realize we are called to be Christ-like. I know I have been guilty of it on occasion and I am truly sorry for it. In our defense I must say that it's hard - when you have an answer to a question that means the difference of life and death to a human soul - to just sit back and say nothing. I think we need to realize that we are going to be accountable to God for the words we choose and choose wisely.

i might decide for to ideal that fact somewhat... no longer ALL..in basic terms many. mom Teresa replaced right into a great occasion of ways a unmarried human can impact tens of millions upon billions onto the way of Christ's Love and convenience. I agree that to be Christian, is to maintain on with interior the procedures of Christ... i hit upon many Christians have lost the authentic meaning of being Christian, instead they have an inclination to emulate the perspective, movements and behavior of an Apostle that has by no potential even met Christ interior the flesh ( different than as a Spirit... isnt that punishable with the help of dying for Witchcraft or Necromancy back in those days?)... and that Apostle is Paul - Eloquent, sensible yet Wrathful, Self-Righteous and Racist/Sectarian. He replaced into so propose to "heathens"... Christ wasn't... while Christ took Mary Magdalene into his fold, he replaced into harshly criticised, yet Jesus would not seem on the "outdoors" he observed the excellent factor approximately absolutely everyone from the interior... Paul wasn't like that ... he castigated, inspired human beings to shun, and appeared down on many that are no longer of his "high quality"

Hey fellow, Roman Catholic. To answer your question, or at least the one, I think you're asking.

All Christians know that Jesus "is the way". The problem is that some of us who've accepted this way, feel better/holier than others, so they can't help but look down at others.

Added to this problem, is that those that have accepted this "way" of life can't help but feel frustrated when others don't accept the way.

The best way of course is not to win others over by words, but by the way in which we LIVE our lives. Why would others want to accept this "way"? Because of the change it's made in our lives. Hope that helps, God bless. ^_^

I am starting to believe that this section is just a war between athiesm and christianism. I think people should just let everyone believe whatever they want. Religion can spark the strongest emotions! People should use that fire to do good instead of trying to convert others!!!!!

Wow!!!! Are you trying to work or earn your way to Heaven? If that were the case, why did Jesus have to come and die in your place so that you could get to Heaven through Him. Are you saying that Jesus' sacrifice was not good enough? There are so many questions that you really need to ask yourself before you condemn others, like, do you think that you are or can do better than Christ or can sacrifice more than He did, etc., etc., etc.? I really am not trying to be rude here but I am just asking you if you thought about what you really were thinking or learning. Yes, we have to forgive and love, etc. but not at the expense of saying that we are better than Christ for doing that but because of His love, we love. Thank you for your question.

It's true that Jesus never forced himself on anybody. It's also true that he never watered down his Gospel in order to keep from offending people--and he did offend a lot of people. He spoke a lot about hell. He talked about hell more than he talked about heaven.
You know why? Love.
