Yes it's safe. I just returned this morning. I was at the Hilton Waikaloa at the time of the earthquake. I think the media exaggerated the effects. I also spent a couple days on Oahu, it's the same as ever. Go and have a great time!!

Of course it's safe. There was an earthquake in New England just a few days before the Hawaii quake and no one is worried about traveling there. They can strike anywhere. Just remember that if you're someplace that starts shaking, make sure you're not under something that can fall on you, such as a heavy piece of artwork. I live in an extremely earthquake-prone area (we've had some as strong and stronger than the one a couple of weeks ago) and I wouldn't tell someone not to travel here.

Yes, it is. Earthquakes for Hawaii are very rare. For an active volcano island, the Big Island rarely shakes. If you are going to Oahu, that is where Honolulu and Waikiki is, it is so rare, that you should not worry! enjoy Hawaii~! You must have read about the power outage.... however, even when there is a heavy rainfall in a short time, we do get those as well. Once in Hawaii, you just have to relax. Do as the Hawaiian does... take life the way it comes to you that day, and enjoy. It is very beautiful too.

Safety is relative. I assume you're worried about another earthquake. Earthquakes happen all over the world, every day. Earthquakes large enough to do damage are rare. I wouldn't hesitate to fly to Hawaii right now. Really. The electricity was down for less than a day in most places, most schools have reopened, all hotels remain open and most roads are open.
People drown in Hawaii but you rarely hear about it. Make sure you know how to swim if you go into the water. Don't laugh. It happens all the time. Many beaches don't have lifeguards so make sure your beach has one on duty and you should remain CLOSE to the lifeguard. Introduce yourself to him/her and ask about currents or other hazards. And don't turn your back on the ocean. It may appear calm and a rogue wave could suddenly sweep you into the water. Pay attention and make sure the lifeguard is nearby. Stay out of the water if the waves are big.
Shark attacks are rare, but they happen. I wouldn't worry too much about them unless you are bleeding. If so, stay out of the water. Really. You don't want to spend your vacation in the hospital or in the morgue.
There is still lots of crime in Hawaii. The bad guys love to break into cars so you shouldn't leave ANYTHING in the car. The car trunk and the glove compartment is for suckers. Leave it and they will steal it.
I wouldn't go walking on the beach at night, regardless of how romantic it may seem. If you wouldn't do it in your home town then you shouldn't do it in Hawaii. The prisons are so full they export prisoners to other states.

Earth quakes can happen unfortunately in almost every area of the world. As far as a tsunami occurring, remember that Hawaii has the best tsunami warning system in the world.
