sheesh....
Well I dont think another bird weould do it ,, if it was me...
Give it some time,.. Dont be upset with your dog.. He is clueless to what he did..hewas only being a dog.. and he is probably not sure why yu are upset.
Maybe try a more compatible pet later on ... saying to get something and keep the dog and the new pet apart is not realistic as if you have a dog in the home it is likley that eventually it will be around the other pet somehow.. so its best to get pets that are compatible if you can or safegaurd the smaller one..
I knew a zoology Major once that had ,, Rats, micec, boa, Python,2 house rabbits. corn snakes, Hamsters, 2 cats, Parrot and 3 other smaller birds...
All living in the same house running around like they owned the place... all together!.
Made me nervous but He never had a lick of trouble even though there were some REAL incompatibilities there!
But I think he was just Lucky...
Well good luck and give it some time...

I'm sorry about the loss of your parakeet but a dog will chase and tackle anything that moves generally. I would consider just having a dog for a pet minus the feathered friends and the problem would be solved however if you plan on getting a new bird and letting it out of the cage - never leave them together unsupervised.

Should have keep the parakeet away from the dog. So it's to late to do anything about it now.

Here's a sadder story:
So, yesterday my roommate was telling me that one our friend's professor quit in the middle of lecture that day. I was sort of shocked...Well, what happened was that he was going over the answers to their last midterm on the board. Suddenly he stops and says, "I can't do this anymore...I can't teach." It was out of nowhere I guess. He pasues for about 3min. and then he gives the class an explanation on how he has manic depression and has been taking pills for his mental illness but they haven't been helping. He then says how he thought that he would be able to teach but can't seem to do it anymore. I heard from my friend that his speach was very emotional, he ended his speach with his last few words, "Goodbye, good luck to you all in the future." When I first heard this I was like wowww, can professors even do that? It was soo weird because i never heard of something like this happening before. Anyways, today my friend came by my room to let me know that he passed away; yes, he died. She said they found his dead body right after lecture yesterday (suicide...) So, of course now i'm in a greater shock. I couldn't really believe this had happened...i mean, it's the middle of the semester, after the first midterm, and he commits suicide. Like, wouldn't it be weird/shocking/miserable/sad finding out this has happened to someone who has been teaching you, sharing with and willingly giving their knowledge to you? I know, I've never met this professor or have even seen his face, but it still hurt inside, i guess mostly for my friend and and i guess also because i wouldn't have ever thought that someone at such a high rank as a doctor/professor, who has had many successful moments in his life, would have killed himself. This tragic incident was probably driven by our sociey-- which is so demanding, stressful, fast-paced that sometimes it is difficult to keep up. And in this professor's mind, the only solution for his misery may have been suicide.
Now we really know what he meant when he said, "Goodbye..."
Life is strange...and short...i guess we should all make the most of it while it lasts....

You will be encouraged to know the dog will probably recover without much of a problem.
Digesting the feathers could be a challenge.

I'm sorry.... At least you still have your dog. Dogs are more fun than birds anyway, maybe it was for the best. At least he's in a better place now.
