depends... Different translations will have a different number of words. Hebrew and Greek both make it a little harder because of syntax and manuscript methods... Hebrew has "leDavid" (by David) at the beginning of quite a few psalms. Are we to consider that one word or two?
Maranatha appears as one word in the Greek New Testament, often transliterated into English the same way, though it was 2 words in its original Aramaic.
You might get a definite answer here, but it would be truly meaningless.

Well nobody knows actually,with the different types of Bible thats being published every year..the number really varies.But than the Bible is not meant to be counted(i mean the words),its meant to be read and understood..hope that answered your question...

go for it and count it yourself. i tried counting each letter in the NIV version. Didn't get past chapter 4 of Genesis before I became complacent about it all.
