Your friend should fess up to the crime, and face the consequences. The worst thing to do would be to try and hide from the fact. As for the age factor.. 16 is still 16. I'm from Texas, and as long as no weapons were involved, and no one got hurt, physically that is, your friend has a chance at a normal life once this is over. You left out details... one of them being if your friend has a prior juvenile record... especially for burglary.
If so, and is on probation, your friend can expect to be tried as an adult. This is no laughing matter anyway you look at it.
Burglary is a felony.. it's serious.
I hope this helps.
By the way... people don't "snitch" without a reason....
there is more going on here than simply your question.
In any event, being held accountable, and I mean even holding "yourself" personally accountable is a sign of honor, and maturity. The "snitch" is not to blame for this crime...
only the person who committed this crime.
There is no shame in saying "I'm sorry" and asking the court for forgiveness...
especially at the age of 17.
Good luck.

The statute of limitations is still open on robbery. If this matter involves the police he could go to prison, pay restitution, and be ordered community service. It will be difficult to prove the crime after a year so its possible the friend will get away with it.

Hopefully they will charge him as an adult and he'll get a couple of years in prison. Of course they way things work he will proably be charged as a juvenile and be given community service or some such, which amounts to the same thing as, giving your friend the enticement to do it again when he is an adult. Of course then he will get the prison time he so richly deserves. An ounce of prevention?

It is hard to know now that the victims know who did it, perhaps he should go to them and make amends. That would be the right thing to do rather than be afraid.

He'll be charged as if it happened last week. Maybe probation if he's improved himself over this time.
