Why do your eyes react to a sour taste by closing?

Just a bit curious!!!!

sour believe or not is a defence mechanism originally produced by plants to stop herbivoures eating them. Some sour tasting plants also produce copious amounts of sour fluid that can 'squirt' into the eyes etc hence the reaction which is ingrained in all of us, it is our defence mechanism to protect our precious eyes from the acidic fluids produced by sour plants.
