They make you feel better cause your walls look good.

The dust , when you're sanding them could make a lung problem worse ...wear a mask if you do it every day ... and chill out, joint compound is not radioactive, and I think it's mostly calcium.

The compound itself is relatively harmless. Just don't eat it.
The dust from sanding can really mess up the lungs though.
