without knowing how small the dog is it would be impossible to say for sure. go to www.akc.org and browse their breeds. Their breed pages show photos of all the dogs recognized by the akc. It's also possible that its the Shiba Inu. It's not as small as a toy breed, but it's a lot smaller than a husky. The following info is from the akc website:
Size, Proportion, Substance
Males 14½ inches to 16½ inches at withers. Females 13½ inches to 15½ inches. The preferred size is the middle of the range for each sex. Average weight at preferred size is approximately 23 pounds for males, 17 pounds for females. Males have a height to length ration of 10 to 11, females slightly longer. Bone is moderate. Disqualification--Males over 16½ inches in dogs and under 14½ inches. Females over 15½ inches and under 13½ inches.

There is a relatively new breed of dog called the Alaskan Klee Kai. They are exactly that: a miniature husky. They come in 3 sizes: Standard, Miniature, and Toy. The breed originated quite similarly to the poodle. When you breed smaller dogs together, you get smaller puppies. Keep doing that for generations, and you have the same dog, but in a smaller package. Hope this helped!!

It's a little known fact but there is such a thing as dwarf Siberian Huskies. They are a naturally occurring abnormality that happens from time to time when two purebred Sibes are bred. Well that's what they claim anyway. I don't know if I believe it or not, but I'm inclined to believe that they mixed something else in to make these wonderful dogs "miniature". Look at the link from the person above. Don't you think that dog looks like it has Pomeranian or some other such breed in it?

It could be a Japanese Shiba Inu. They are smaller but, the closest cousins of the Huskie breed. These are very popular dogs because of their small size but beautiful wolf- like face.

im ex navy and i have 4 huskies yes they have a small version but its not really a husky cant remeber the name of them . they cost alot . all mine came from the shelter. but remember you need at least to huskys they are pack dogs . thats if you get the huskies. they have bad separation issues . my youngest is 6 oldest is 12. the minis i seen at the mall in the pet stores where about 1200 bucks . they are just a inbreed mix to make them look like a huskie . same as min pinchers. they arent really dobermans . get a real husky . you need a good yard .

There is a miniature breed of huskies... it's a fairly newer breed and I think can only be found through specific breeders. They are adorable though!
Do a google search for mini huskies to try and find a breeder in your area.

Maybe Keeshond or Elk Hound.
Go here: http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds
There is no such breed as "Minature Huskies" - that is some idiots breeding stunted dwarfed genetically flawed members of those breeds - the kind of thing which results in horrendous health and genetic problems.

Norweigen Elkhound. We used to have 3 of them and everyone confused them. They are around 40 lbs. and look just like a husky.
