In my state (Washington), you would be considered a "Mandated Reporter". That means you have a legal obligation to report the suspected abuse to Child Protective Services. I can't imagine that this isn't the case in your state as well. And regardless of the legal obligations (or lack thereof), you have a moral and ethical obligation to report this suspected abuse. You have reasonable cause to suspect that abuse has taken place. If you don't know the number for your local CPS agency, then call the police. Please do not let yourself be talked out of reporting this incident.

You need to report this grandpa to your local Social Services department. Too many cases of child molestation go unnoticed because of fear and ignorance. It's your responsibility as a public worker. You would be doing the child a great deed. Good luck.

If you work at a clinic, you should know you are OBLIGATED by law to report any suspected abuse. Do it immediately! This child is too young to 'make up' something like that. It needs to be investigated no matter what the outcome.

As a person how works in health care it is your duty to report suspected abuse of any kind. The person does not know who reports them - so don't worry about that. If you sit back and never take action you are responsible as much as the person who is abusing her. I'd rather you report it and be wrong than you not report it.

I would report it confidentially to Social Services. They should go out and investigate the situation. It is better to be safe than sorry. Like you said, you don't want her to grow up traumatized.

If you work in the clinic, by law you have to report suspect child abuse.

I'm with everyone else. You have got to report it. The little girl did her part and told someone. Now you have to do your part.

You definitely need to report it to DCS. There may be a pattern of this with his own kids and now his granddaughter.
