When they start asking.

As a mother of two children now 25 and 22, I started talking to them when they were about 8 then again at 9, 10,11,12,13,14,15,etc. They are both still single and live away from home, but I still talk to them about it every chance I get. At first they were embarrassed by it, now they will talk to me about ANYTHING because they know I won't judge, just listen and help anytime, in anyway I can. You may think they aren't listening.........but they are!!

When they are 3-4, talk about puppies and kittens as baby's,and answer their questions in an age appropriate manner, there several good books out there that tell you when what and how to tell the little ones

THERE IS REALLY NO CERTAIN AGE BECAUSE KIDS ARE BEING EXPOSED TO THINGS AT AN EARLIER AGE THAN BEFORE....JUST START TALKING TO THEM WHEN YOU NOTICE A CHANGE IN THEM, LIKE THEY CALM DOWN, THEY HAVE BOYFRIENDS/GIRLFRIENDS, THEY WATCH CERTAIN THINGS ON TV OR THEY ASK QUESTIONS. OBSERVE YOUR CHILD AND KNOW EVERY MOOD, EVERY SPOT AND EVERY HAIR ON THEIR HEAD SO THAT YOU AUTOMATICALLY KNOW WHEN THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN THEM

as early as possible. make it plain, make it clear. speak to them on their level. as your kids get older, tell em again what you told em when they were little.

a good instructor reminds, and reminds and reminds.
when my daughter was little I talked to her about sex,

when she was a little older, I talked to her about sex and she said,
"oh daddy."

now she is 17 and I talk to her about sex. she doesn't say "oh daddy any more. now I think she listens more.

step right up and enjoy this wonderful part of helping your kids grow and mature.

best,

i would say pretty young, most kids have "working parts" by preteen/young teen age. and, at 7 or 8, i used to get really mad about my mom breaking up the "show me yours i'll show you mine" sessions i had with the girl around the corner cuz i thought they were REAL fun (although i didn't know why they were fun)

in our time it was before starting high school, but by then we already knew. today babies are having babies so ten would be a good time to start some of it.
